Gym Training vs. Cross Training

So I'm currently doing a six week shred program and it's going OK, in three weeks I'm down 7 lbs and 6.5". It's designed round the gym but throws in things like planks, ball leg curls, lunges etc. but I'd say 80% weights (oh has cardio too). My diet is about 1,500 cal with macros of 50% carbs/20-30% protein/ 20-30% Fats

I bought another plan to do after this one and it's 100% out of the gym, no weights at all, e.g. mountain climbers, sprints, pull-ups, burpees, jumping jacks etc.

Honestly, I'm dreading the second plan a bit. I like the weights, the elliptical machine etc. But on the other hand I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to change things-up with this other workout.

Curious in others thoughts on these cross training programs and how they compare in terms of achieving weight loss vs. gym workouts.

Exercise is for fitness and health. Calorie deficit is for weight loss. You can be perfect and great at exercise, but if you're consuming more than you burn, weight loss isn't going to happen.
It's great to get variances of programs and regimens to figure out what you like to do, but in terms of exercise, the idea is to figure out something you can do for life.

@ninerbuff - Thanks for your reply. I get the calorie deficit thing (I'm 5'10, 240 and male) which is why I'm sticking to 1,500 calories, maybe I should have phrased my question as follows, "What are thoughts on each and how they complement a calorie deficit for weight loss".

I agree key to long term success is finding something that is sustainable and that I enjoy doing and I'm mixing some of that into my program. Racquetball, walking/hiking for example. However, in the short term I'd like to maximize what I'm doing for weight loss complementing my calorie deficit. Thanks again for your thoughts.
