Tuna

What's everyone's favorite low cal tuna meal, lunch or dinner? I love tuna and I think it might be my saving grace during this journey.

I buy my tuna in pouches. One pouch worth on a rice cake, sprinkle a tiny amount of shredded cheese on top, then nuke it in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the cheese. Gluten-free tuna melt.

I also make tuna salad by mixing mashed avocado and a touch of lime juice with the tuna. Again, I usually put it on a rice cake.

I used to make tuna pasta all the time but the pasta makes it so high in calories so I've taken to making the sauce and eating it on it's own. Chop a large white onion and fry off, add a tin of chopped tomatoes or a carton of passata, mixed herbs, garlic powder, chilli flakes, little sugar and some tomato puree, and some corn starch granules to thicken. Add 2 tins (135g each) of tuna chunks in brine. Works out at 2 servings just under 290 cals each. I sometimes have a slice of toast alongside.

I just bought Starkits Tuna Creations. It comes with ranch, lemon pepper and spicy dressing. It is moist and ready to eat. The best part is that each pouch is only 80 calories.

My Tuna meal tends to be my main evening meal so not really low calorie, normally 1 tin of no drain tuna, 1 bag of Tilda rice (250g) and about 100g of sweetcorn....put it all in a bowl, stir together and eat, for about 600+cals

Tuna steak, coated in sesame seeds, slightly seared, then thinly sliced to dip in a soy/garlic/rice wine vinegar sauce.

Starkist tuna pouches! Use as a salad topping or in a wrap. They also make a small kit with crackers that's only 130 calories too.

One of my favorite easy Sicilian recipes, tuna agrodolce (sweet and sour) works great with salmon or other firm fish steaks too and it reheats OK. It's good with or without the cannelini beans. I use stevia instead of the sugar -- be careful not to use too much. I usually don't have fresh mint around, dried mint flakes work fine in the recipe:

I put it on top of a salad or in a wrap mostly. The Tuna Creation pouches are good just eaten with a fork for a quick dose of protein.

Wow so many great ideas. I love tuna and I think I could eat it for every meal and never get tired of it, I used to make tuna salad with guac instead of mayo. it was so good. I also like putting it on salad. I need to get more Olive Garden dressing, yum! More ideas welcome!!

I mix canned tuna with FRESH pineapple pieces, and eat it just like that. Sometimes I add finely chopped carrot or celery for crunch.

Make your tuna salad with plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo. Mayo = really bad for you. Greek yogurt = really great for you. Granted, I'm not a hug mayo fan so the substitution is fine with me.

Someone mentioned cottage cheese, though, and I love that idea!

OMG that looks to die for, I usually make salmon patties, but I am going to have to try this. YUM!

I didn't think of that, I'm not a huge fan of greek yogurt though, but I'm sure the tuna would overpower it anyways, I do like it with guac though.

Tuna, fat free Greek yogurt (instead of mayo), chopped; onion, celery, tomato, salt, pepper and onion powder, teaspoon of vinegar.

Got some great recipes from here I'm gonna have to try!!! I just buy the starkist tuna packets and put it on Sara Lee multigrain bread... Combined it's 170 calorie snack that is pretty filling. When you add a small bag of chips or protein bar you've got lunch!

I tried this tonight and I think it's going to be a new go to for me, might have to be adjusted for cals but that's easy.
    1 can tuna
1 sm/med avocado (might have to adjust this down for cals next time)
    Several cherry tomatoes cut up
3/4 cucumber cut into little cubes
    Little mustard, garlic powder, s&p
Mix it all up! I ended up mashing half the avocado for creaminess in place of mayo and cutting the other half into little cubes and trying to leave this pieces whole.
So many yummy textures and soooooo filling cause all the cucumber and tomatoes. Would be so good with some crackers or something but I didn't have many cals left cause I added the other half of the avo lol

I love tuna salad, I make homemade mayo and add s&p, onion, celery, and sometimes chopped up sweet pickles. Eat it by itself, or I like to serve it in 1/2 avocado.

As for Tuna Steak, I like to coat with sesame oil, sear all sides and serve rare with sesame seeds sprinkled on top.

I just found an awesome recipe on pinterest for tuna salad zucchini boats. I made them for dinner the other night. It was soooo yummy! Also, there's no mayo in it! Although, I did add some cubed avocado to mine just because I love them so much haha
