Desk job help!!

I'm working 9 hours 5 days a week at desk job and I'm going crazy!! I previously worked at Starbucks and I was used to being on my feet all day and moving around. Anyone have ways they stay at least sort of active while at their desk job??

    Use the printer on the other side of the floor. Put on a timer and get up every ten minutes or so to get the blood circulating. Use stairs instead of elevator where possible. A desk cycle. Volunteer to pick up the mail. Set yourself up with a standing height desk or counter that you can shift back and forth from your regular desk.

    Use your breaks to go for walks. Go up and down stairs a few times a day. Do some squats / lunges every hour for a few minutes. Take a shirt 5 minute walk around the office evert hour. There is lots u can do so u aren't sitting 9 hours straight.

    keep them coming, this is my problem too!!! A friend of mine and I try to IM each other (We are in different buildings) and we see who is the fastest and then we go for a walk every hour. but sometimes when I am working trying to finish I don't want to get up lol.

    I hear you! That's why I'm here--trying to undo the damage from staying too long at at a desk job! It's great that you have the good sense to address it early.

    Like other folks said, stairs are wonderful. Or just one short stool to help with push-ups and step-ups. Squats in a corner and wall-slides can help. If people look at you funny, try to get them to join in.

    9 hours is kind of a lot. When there's nothing urgent at hand, it's okay to tell your team, "I need to stand/walk/stretch/etc. to get my thoughts together. I'll be back in 3-5 minutes."

    Doing that shows your boss that you're more than just a warm butt in a comfy chair! And even just walking around can boost creativity, learning, memory, attention span, etc. It'll make you even better at your job :3

    I used to have a small cup for my water so that I could stretch my legs every time I needed to refill. You drink more water and get a little walk. I also had an up fitness band that would vibrate if I had been sat down for more than an hour to remind me to get up.

    My garmin "yells" at me every hour to move. I usually walk to the printer, or to the restroom, or get some more water.

    Drink a bunch of water, get it from a tap that isn't the closest (maybe even a few floors away). You'll get your water in and you'll have to go to the bathroom more, and when you need to do that pick a bathroom that's farther away.

    Go to people's offices to talk to them vs sending an email

    Just go for a short walk every once in a while

    This is an awesome thread. I need the ideas, too.

    I try to stand up and walk around my office a little when I'm on the phone. And I take the stairs in my parking garage instead of the elevator.

    I like this. I like my water teeth-achingly cold, anyway, so this ensures it never really gets warmed up.

    Also? The more water you drink, the more you have to pee, which forces you to get up and walk. Our bathroom is a bit of a ways.

    OMG!!! I want one of those!!! I work at a desk also! Now I have to find out if it really will help burn calories!
