what to do with smoked tofu?

I threw it in the grocery cart last night, but now I'm stumped. Does anyone have suggestions for how to use it?

It is already cooked, so you can add it to a stirfry of vegetables, or you could cut it in 1 inch slices and microwave it or heat it in the oven and eat it with toast like a sandwhich... With fresh onion and tomato...

I always like to put BBQ sauce or ketchup on my tofu.

You could heat up frozen corn and cube the tofu and heat it up and eat it like that, together.

You could crumble it and fry it with onions and an egg.

You could eat it cold if you want but I prefer it warm or hot.

You could heat it with or without cheese, put it in a wrap or pita bread with salad and mayo or salad dressing.

Good luck I hope you find a way you like!

I buy pre-baked/smoked tofu when I'm traveling to put into sandwiches. It's great with vegetables and guacamole or hummus.

Throw it in the bin or give it to your worst enemy.

I've never bought smoked tofu. I prefer to marinate and bake mine. I'm assuming you could still marinate it. Tofu doesn't taste like much except what you put with it.

I don't like tofu much but I do really like it smoked. I usually slice it, pan-fry it, add a little hot sauce or barbeque sauce, and add it to my salads or on a sandwich. I also use it as a protein when I'm making pad Thai as it actually has some flavour, unlike regular tofu IMO.

Eat it cold as a snack or for an easy to pack lunch.

    LOL

I love tofu, and I enjoy it mostly in Asian inspired dishes, like I have a coconut curry soup I looove - full of veggies. But I buy "uncooked" tofu so it can absorb all the sauce and flavor. I'm unsure what smoking it does to the flavor.

Throw it out and don't buy it again.

How many versions of this joke does this thread need?

I get it. Some people don't care for tofu.

It's almost like taste is a subjective thing and some people like foods that others don't like.

People are always complaining about tofu...it is an incredible versatile food and to be honest most people who don't like it say so because they just don't know how to cook it or use it properly. I've had countless people come over for dinner, many who spew the same one liners, and by the end of the meal (of which one dish is often tofu), they are running to the store to be able to recreate the dishes...and no they are not just being "nice".

As for what to do with smoked tofu...If you are looking for typical NA flavours, you already have the smokiness, so you could think along the lines of BBQ. Make an appetizer or as part of a vegetable napoleon. For us, we would move to Asian themes, dice it and add to Nasi Goreng or Gado Gado...alternately, it would go well with Sichuan...how about a nice Sichuan hot pot? It can then be one of the many items dipped in the hot soup base - get some veggies, mushrooms, fish balls or shrimp (or meats if that is more your style).

I usually get it uncooked and mix it with burger. But I suppose you could mix it already cooked as well.

  • I'd slice it, grill it until it's crispy and then eat it with poached eggs, baked beans and mushrooms for Sunday brunch, yum
