I have a severe peanut allergy, and I'm on the look out for some great peanut free protein bars! So many bars have peanuts as a hidden ingredient. Does anyone have a favorite bar that's absolutely peanut free?

By "hidden ingredient," do you mean manufacturers are putting peanuts in protein bars and not disclosing that on the label? If so, I don't think we'll be able to help you. We wouldn't know who is violating the law and including peanuts in foods that don't have them listed as an ingredient.

I don't pay attention to that but I would just say to make sure when you read the ingredients, you look for the little asterisk thing because some things that may not directly contain peanuts will have a disclaimer that they were manufactured in a factory that uses peanuts in other foods.

How about making your own? This way you KNOW what is in them and that they were made in a peanut free environment. Many sites like Yummly and Greatist have recipes.

My husband has a severe peanut allergy too and some of the Quest flavours are okay for him (we usually get white chocolate raspberry for him as it doesn't say "may contain traces of peanuts".) You have to read the label carefully, obviously, though.

By hidden ingredients I mean like special K protein bars have peanut ingredients without being peanut flavored. I do read every label and don't eat things that may contain peanuts. Thanks for the help!!

I make my own! The base is 1 cup coconut flour, 4 scoops vanilla protein powder, and up to a cup of almond milk to get the right consistency. You could add fruit and nuts that you can eat, whatever you like really. Cinnamon and sugar could yummy. It makes about 12 bars for me. They do need to be refrigerated or they get very soft. I spread mine between 2 layers of parchment paper and roll it out, then slice the bars with the parchment still on it so they have a nice wrapper.
