I wear sketchers daily and something similar for the gym. I have started to increase my jogging and wanted to know what brand of shoes or styles do others wear for working out. I tried to go for a jog last night outside (not on a treadmill like usual) and I hurt my knee. Not used to running on an incline or slope plus the damn sidewalk sucked. any tips?

You need to get good, supportive shoes that are appropriate for your gait type if you are planning on jogging/running. See if you can find a running store in your area that does shoe fittings. They will analyze your arch type and how your feet move as you walk to recommend the best shoes for you. Having proper shoes can prevent a lot of injuries.

I like Asics and Brooks. Brooks are sort of ugly but they are very supportive.

I'd also recommend some exercises to support your knee when running.

I stick with my Nike Air Max, whatever the current variation is. My daily wear are Ariat boots. My Nikes are great for the gym and hiking.

I love my Asics for general running and waterproof Salomons for trail running.

Do you have a running shoe store near you? (preferably not a big giant shoe chain...a smaller place that actually has well-trained, knowledgeable staff). If so, go in and get them to do a fitting on you. They will have you walk barefoot and see how your foot falls, and do the best they can to give you a shoe that can alleviate any "disfunction" you may have. You can let them know your price range, and they will help you out.

For example, I have flat feet but large 'supportive' arches are very uncomfortable for me. Instead, they give me shoes with low arches but with a sole that is harder on the inner part (under the arch) than the outer part of the foot, to balance these things out. It's worth the time and the trip!

Whatever you do, don't get any of those barefoot/free run sneakers with thin soles for actually exercising. They are discouraged by any credible specialist I know, especially for those of us with larger statures (word of mouth, no peer-reviewed publications i've seen on this).

Running shoe faves are subjective. For instance I cannot wear Nike. I have under armour right now because clearly I have to support mfp...haha I got them cause they are pink. not loving them. I'll go back to new balance. They fit me best

Skechers are the worst shoes. Go to a decent running store.

For running shoes, you should go to a running store...they will put you on a treadmill and watch you run and determine whether you pronate, are neutral, or supinate...based on that they will find the appropriate shoe. They should bring you a few different brands to try on that address your needs...from there you just pick the one that feels right. It's far more important to get the right fit than any one particular brand.

I wear Brooks Glycerin for running, Shimano RO88 for road cycling, Shimano MO88 for my CX bike, and Reebok Cross Lifter 2.0 Plus in the weight room. I'd like to get some Reebok Nanos for general fitness stuff, but they aren't a pressing need at the moment as my lifters are basically a hybrid shoe rather than a pure lifter so I can use them for box jumps and lunges and other stuff off the platform.
