Jumping jacks query

Hi all,
I was hoping somebody would be able to clear up my confusion about jumping jacks?
I've had knee pain periodically since being a teenager (now 30). Generally it comes & goes, I suspect it may just be an indicator that at some point I'll wind up with osteoporosis/similar.
My weight, when it started, was around 9 stone & has fluctuated over time, so weight doesn't seem to affect whether they're sore or not.
Anyway, since I reintroduced exercise I have been doing the low impact version of jumping jacks. I was just wondering if I should stick to this, & would the normal version potentially cause havoc later on in life?
Also, being somewhat heavier than I was back in the day, is there a weight at which normal jumping jacks become generally hazardous, or are they suitable for people at any weight?
If anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated :-)

I'm pretty sure jumping jacks are useless for anything besides getting your heart rate up (cardiovascular benefits), which you can do with many other exercises just as well. What is your fitness goal?0

I don't do jumping jacks unless I am in a water fit class. For land based exercises I replace them with step ups. Gets the heart rate up, but with a more controlled lower impact move.
There is no need whatsoever to do a move that is unsuitable for your individual needs.
Adapt anything for you.

Thank you both for responding. Adapting sounds like a good plan, think I'll stick to the low impact version then!
whmscll I have various fitness goals, but to spare unnecessary detail overall I want to lose at least a further four stone, tone up & improve my endurance. So far I've only shifted just under a stone since Christmas but I had to cut out idiotic compulsive binge eating first then introduce some exercise (varies between 60-90 mins a day atm, but I've only started putting consistent effort in in the last 3 weeks or so ). Hohum. Time will tell...0
