Keeping Under Your Calories In Check

How do I watch my calories while on vacation/holiday. I choose not to stop logging my foods & workouts just because I have a break. I may have to plan what I eat & schedule my workouts to prepare ahead.

Fish and chicken dishes in restaurants are my go to for keeping in line. Many restaurants have items in the database. Beware of salads at restaurants. Suckers can be loaded with more calories than your daily allotment.

Use good judgement when dining out and stay active.

I will be active during the day & I will have an app to see how much calories I burn.

    Have fun!!

I created a generic "trip" category. Used 1 cup for 2500 calories. I usually have a good idea what many items run so can at least get an estimate of daily count if items aren't in database.

Eating at a chain is best (like applebees, outback, etc), because you are very easily able to find the nutrition facts online; when you eat at a small or local place, that becomes much harder. There are a few tips to make it easier:

Stick with lean protein, such as fish and chicken.
Avoid breaded, crispy, and fried foods.
Avoid salads that are loaded with extras (nuts, dried fruit, etc, as these can be high in calories)
Ask for sauces, dips, and dressings on the side (as this gives you more control over portion)
Avoid cheese (No, seriously. Cheese is SO high in calories, so if you can avoid it, do).

It sounds like you have a good start on your strategy, with planning ahead, and planning in some calorie-burning activities.

In similar situations, I use the MFP database to estimate what I've eaten, using the higher-calorie instances of dishes similar to what I'm eating. I plan ahead if possible, looking at the restaurant menu online and thinking about what to order. I log everything, even if I go over goal. And I think about fun activities I can do that are vacation-like, that also burn some calories. These vary by where you're going, but even beyond actual sports or workouts, there's sight-seeing on foot instead of in vehicles, or swimming/wading instead of just sunning at the beach.
