Hi everyone!
I just recently got diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar unrelated to diabetes), and have an appointment later in the week to meet with a nutritionist.
I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this, and if I could maybe peek into your diaries or even if you had some tips/tricks to share about controlling your blood sugar!
Thanks so much

Avoiding things that increase your blood sugar is apparently helpful to reducing the hypo events, I was reading the other day something by a sufferer. So limiting sugars and starches and/or combining them with protein & fat might be helpful.0

I don't have this exactly, but I suffer from low blood sugar on occasion, usually when I'm on the go for too long without something to eat. I get hangry, jittery, break out in a cold sweat, and cannot concentrate. I usually eat some quick carbs, most often a piece of fruit. The trick for me is to always have a small snack with me so I don't ever go too long without eating something, even if it's just a handful of nuts.0

I have regular hypoglycemia.
I have to eat at least every 4 hours during the day.
I try not to eat anything with more than 10 grams of added sugar.
A bit of protein or fiber seems to help.
I keep a protein bar in my purse along with a serving of almonds in a baggie.
I don't count the sugar from fruits, veggies, milk and plain yogurt.
I never drink sugary drinks.
I had a daquiry for mardi gras, but I made sure I had a big steak before.

I had reactive hypoglycemia when I was pregnant. Eat small portions, lay off sugary stuff and replace white foods with complex carbs instead. Example: switch white bread for whole wheat, sweet potatoes for regular potatoes, etc.0

I have this. I used to get the shakes, light headed and weak an hour or two after eating. I felt like I need to eat 6 times a day. In my case, it WAS related to insulin resistance. My fasting blood glucose was at the bottom of the prediabetic range but my insulin levels were going up. It makes sense, it just took my body a while to get enough insulin in there after eating, and then there was too much so BG plummeted.
I eat a very low carb ketogenic diet now. I rely on fats for fuel so I don't get the adrenalin rush and low blood pressure symptoms hen BG gets low. My brain largely relies on ketones now so it doesn't push for more food.
The other day I was fasting. When I checked BG it was at a 3.3. I felt perfectly fine. In the past when it fell from 7 or 8 to a 4, I would be shaking and feeling horrible. A low carb high fat diet can help treat it.... Or i could have continued to eat every two hours.
