Gallbladder Removal and How it Affected Your Weightloss

Okay... I had my gallbladder out in march of this year... It was fairly easy and I didn't get any of the horrible side effects that some others get.

But now I almost wish that I had gotten those instead of what I did get... I went from losing 5-10lbs a month to losing 4 lbs since then! seriously! Did this happen to anyone else?

I had mine out 4 years ago, and other than really needing to know where the bathroom is approx. 20 mins after eating, I don't really notice a difference except, of course, for the attacks I had daily!

    Double post
  • I got mine out in march and I didn't get any side effects from in either. I felt worlds better, and was able to actually lose more from working out without the pain of gallbladder attacks

    best of luck!!!

I had my gallbladder taken out a year and a half ago. Right after I had my son I had to have an emergency surgery. I have problems with my digestive system now because of this. Certain foods send me right to the bathroom or I have extreme stomach pains for the rest of the day. I can tell you it has not been helpful in my weight loss journey at all. I wouldn't wish this for anyone. I am happy that you have not suffered any consequence from your surgery. I wish I had been that lucky. You will be able to work out, eat healthy, and lose weight. You just got to keep at it and not give up if you have one bad day, get right back into it. There's no quick fix, just alot of hard work, dedication, and lots of sweat!! Good luck to you. Feel free to add.

I didn't notice a difference in my weight loss, either. Perhaps, try switching things(diet and exercise) up a bit. It's possible that your body has adapted to what you have been doing and needs a new routine. I had mine removed 10 months ago and am so happy that I did.

  • I had mine removed 2 weeks after I had my daughter. That was about 3 1/2 years ago. They told me to watch my fat and grease intake. I didn't. I would have to run to the restroom after I ate anything with the slightest bit of fat or grease. When I started my weight loss journey this past January I made a vow to watch my fat in take (even good fats could cause me stomach troubles) and definitely the grease intake! I tell you what I have never felt so much more energetic and less sluggish then I have in my life!! I have been losing weight fairly easily, as long as I watch the fat and grease. I have to watch the good fats too because I learned that eating nuts had caused me stomach problems and bloating and I didn't have any problems eating them previously. I think though that it all depends on your body. So if you are still eating a lot of fatty foods maybe cut back on them. Try to find alternatives (like vitamins and supplements) to make up the good fats that your body needs. AGAIN THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND WHAT HAS WORKED FOR MY BODY  (sorry I felt like I had to make that last statement loud because I got reemed by someone once for saying I don't eat good fats. Umm...I can't easily like others cause of my lack of gallbladder and the way MY body reacts, haha)

I had mine out just over 2 years ago, but I don't know if it affected my weight loss or not because 4 days after I had surgery, we found out I was pregnant. Recovery sucked since it was mixed with morning sickness, and I did (do) have all the side effects. If I even look at a McDonalds fry I have to run to the bathroom. Sadly, that didnt stop me from putting on and keep on 30+lbs during and after pregnancy. I have had no issues in the last month though, and its just because of the changes in diet.

I had mine out in 2003.... I was overweight then, but nothing like I am now. I do know that my gall bladder removal had nothing to do with my weight gain. My weight gain was due to chronic pain (back injury), depression and not giving a crap about what I ate.

Fast forward 8 years... I have my pain and depression under control and MFP came into my life :) I lost 32lbs in 9 weeks. yay me... BUT, I know that once I'm at the point of losing 60+ pounds like you... the weight isn't going to come off as easily.

So, maybe it's time to switch things up to keep your body challenged. Really start counting your calories OUT in addition to your calories in. Do you have a heart rate monitor or a bodybugg/bodymedia?

You're really lucky if you're not running to the bathroom after every meal like so many people here! I can say to those people... it gets better once your body adapts. It takes quite a few years though.

Don't trick yourself into thinking that your lack of gallbladder is holding you back. Keep marching on!

Yes I have tried switching it up many ways. I've been trolling the internet looking for a reason my weightloss could have slowed so much... I have a doctors appointment this afternoon and I am going to be getting her to take some bloodwork to be sure that my thyroid isn't going wonky on me...

I'm sure it's just me.... But I want to be sure that there isn't something medical.
