Losing 20 pounds by July

So currently I am eating 1500 calories a day and burning around 200-250 with various exercise. I want to lose 20 pounds before my graduation this summer. Should I be eating less? Working out more? I'm 5'4" 160lbs and 18 years old.

I am also 18years old at 5"1 and currently weigh 129lbs from 142lbs in just over two months. I burn a similar amount of calories at the gym about 2-3 times a week and I am on a 1200 calories a day. I have found the protein shakes mostly slender blend by protein world and pure green tea has help me lose more quicker :)

Do you find yourself getting really hungry on 1200 calories? Or has it been okay?

I did for the first few weeks but if I ever felt hungry I would just drink a big glass of water that would usually help fill me up again but if it didn't listen to your body and eat something healthy like an apple or something. I now don't often get hungry :)

Try drinking 3-4 cups a day no sugar or sweetners just as it is. Works a treat

My recommendation would be to enter 140lbs in as your profile, and then eat according to how many calories they recommend for a 140lb person.

Let's do this by the numbers.

Based on this TDEE calculator: https://tdeecalculator.net/

I bet on average you burn about 1900 calories per day. To lose 20 pounds by July, that's 20x3500 = 70,000 net calories burned in about 100 days. That's a daily calorie deficit of 700 calories, every single day until July.

Which means you need to eat around 1200 calories per day in order to reach that goal. And look at that, that lines up exactly with what the other person said she does.

OP, I think you should go for a more realistic goal... lets say you have about 15 weeks (didn't specify when in July)...losing more than 1 lbs a week would be too aggressive for you since you don't have that much to lose. You are setting yourself to be disappointed. Also weight loss isn't linear so some weeks there might be a stall and you lose less than expected. You should start now and go or something achievable and something that is maintainable. Also keep your health in check. From your stats your TDEE is somewhere around 1750-1800, so what you should aim for is 1 lbs loss per week and eat 1250-1300+50% of exercise calories. Eating under 1200 is a health risk and to achieve your 20 lbs goal you would most likely have to go quite a bit under. Believe me that losing 10 is better then losing 20 and your health (even though you would end up giving up because it would be too much for your body). You are making a change for a lifetime, do it right! Also tea won't make you lose any faster, it's all about calories in-calories out...it is good to stay hydrated in any case so tea won't hurt I guess :) All the best to you.
