I'm Mike Ballenger and I left this site a year or more ago thinking that losing weight was just too hard. Well my A1C test just showed I'll be an insulin dependent diabetic in 3-6 months if this combination of pills and weight loss doesn't work. Staring at this future, losing weight doesn't seem all that "hard" now and I'm ready to get to work.

Hi Mike. I wish you luck and I recommend you take it seriously. I already made the mistake of waiting until diabetes was "official". Then I ended up in the hospital with horribly painful pancreatitis (probably diabetes related), which was a great motivator. I was also getting tingly fingers and toes. My grandfather ended up with amputations. What I am saying is, don't wait for pain and disease to make a change. Assume you are already diabetic. Since we have sugar processing problems, the number one thing to do is cut way back on carbs to allow our bodies to heal and metabolize our foods better. The carbs cause inflammation that affect every part of our bodies. Think of weight loss as a side event of our body working better overall. My weight loss was slow, but I got proof in my bloodwork that my efforts were working. Cholesterol went into normal range. A1C went down to "prediabetic". C-reactive protein improved and lots more. Tingling went away. Cold sensitivity reduced. And p.s. my weight decreased somewhat. I got help from a nutritionist due to all the conflicting and confusing info. His main guidance was minimize grains, especially wheat, use dairy as a condiment instead of as a side dish, stick your nose way up in the air when offered junk food and desserts, don't drink calories or diet drinks, and take a really good multivitamin. There were more detailed recommendations and nutrients, but food and activity are 80% of the focus. I stopped paying attention and had way too many treats in the last few months and the tingling plus a few lbs are returning. Since it's a way of life, I just need to get my head right and make my next hour a healthier one. Repeat. I need motivation, too!0
