Question about knees during weight loss

It was hard to think of how to appropriately title this, but here is my question. Background is, I'm currently 270, 5'7" female. I've already lost 10 lbs and goal is to get to 160. I am active (stay home with 2 year old son). When I do any exercise that requires bending my knees with weight bearing, like squats, my knees make this awful crackly sound. It's not painful at all but I know it isn't supposed to be that way. My question to you is, did anyone experience this when they were obese, and did it stop when you lost weight?

You don't even have to be obese for it to happen. Many people who are unfit that I take on have this happen when I first start training them. I even have it happen in my right knee, though I've been training for over 30 years now and mine is more due to wear and tear.

I get a bit of clicking sometimes in one knee when I haven't warmed up properly and have a tight muscle somewhere. The sports physio I see occasionally said it isn't necessarily a problem if it's not accompanied by pain, weakness, instability, or loss of normal range of motion, which for me it isn't. You could get it checked it out if it worries you. I have a loud clicky hip which is due to tightness and inflexibility, just lets me know I need to stretch and foam roll more often.
It's either got better since losing 30lbs or I just notice it less cos I'm used to it and not worried.0 -

I am pretty fit and my whole body clicks and cracks (not painful).0

I've never been overweight, and my knees, ankles, hips, shoulders, and elbows have always clicked and cracked. My orthopedist told me it's normal, and it's nothing to worry about unless there's pain associated with the cracking.0

I have never been obese...and my knees have cracked since I was a kid. It's just what they do. I'm not unfit, either.0

My knees crackle something fierce, especially when I'm warming up or doing squats. I was formerly obese...310 now down to 180. And they always made noise. There use to be pain in both knees and hips, but now just noise.0
