I'm trying to educate myself on the paleo lifestyle. Anybody eating that way? Any suggestions for beginners? Or for someone who's thinking about it?

I liked the idea initially, but it makes no sense - food available now doesn't resemble what was available in the paleolithic era; humans ate whatever they could find locally; the food rules in Paleo are arbitrary; if it's just about eating healthy, it doesn't have to be that complicated. That's why there'll be jokes about roadkill and grubs.0

marksdailyapple.com is a great resource for primal and paleo lifestyle. My family and have been successfully eating this way for over a year and it has been tremendous for our health. It's not for everyone, but it has helped us eliminate processed food, get off our prescription medication, reduced hunger and snacking, and lose weight without hunger. The problem with calories in/calories out approach, at least for me, is that when I eat grains and sugars, even a little, it makes me much hungrier and hence harder to maintain my deficit. So for me, paleo makes it easier to keep my calories where they need to be. I also feel better. I know some people like to laugh at the paleo movement, but it has helped many people and I think that we should try different approaches on this journey to improved health and weight, and paleo is an approach that works well for many. I'm glad I tried it and so is my family.0

I've always wondered why it's called "Paleo." Especially when you consider the lifespan of a human that lived in the paleolithic era.0 -
Thank you everyone for your thoughts0

I went modified paleo 3 years ago. It helped me get off sugar, carbs, and shed (& keep off) 35 pounds. Still going strong and don't plan to change. I am not a die hard follower (as the modified label suggests) but I do make better choices than I did. It may have begun with food but it evolved into improving my whole life and in turn those of my family as well. We eat cleaner food, buy cleaner items, and support local (fresh) as much as possible. I have also become a more informed consumer than I ever was in the past.
Research everything but don't get overwhelmed and think "I have to go all in right now.". It's OK to transition with small steps or a giant leap. Do what's comfortable for you.
I did small steps:
1. Changed what I ate. Not what type of food, just what I chose to allow myself to eat. No sugar, etc
2. Started buying healthier types of food to include organic, grass fed, free range, minimally processed products...(implemented over a two year span).
Going modified paleo is one of the best choices I've ever made. I am relieved to know exactly what is in our food and what chemicals are in my household.0 -
Modify your diet...to what you can stick to . Paleo or anything else as long as it is healthy.0
