Recovering bulimic trying to become healthy again

I've always struggled with eating since about middle school. I used to eat healthy but with severe calorie restrcitions. Once I came to college I started over eating and became bulimic. I don't purge and binge as much as I used to. I more struggle with over eating. I have a hard time eating healthy though and find myself eating junk all the time. If anyone has any advice, tips or just general support, I would love to hear. I would also love to add some positive people to help with motivation.

Congratulations on your decision to be healthy. I 've struggled with disordered eating since middle school, too (which was a very long time ago), and it continues to be challenging at times. My biggest success in getting healthier--with eating and exercise--has been when I started logging everything on MFP. I am able to have a non-judgmental outside indication of when I'm eating too many calories, or too few, or too much sugar, or exercising too much, or not at all...and so on. I also use the "notes" box to jot down what might have been going on that day to account for changes in my eating. I also can remind myself that every day starts over so one bad day does not need to spiral into complete disaster. Don't get me wrong, I still have those binge days where my only entry is "buffet" with a total number of estimated calories. Another nice thing about tracking my food, is that I started noticing some of the "healthy" foods really aren't so I make better choices that lead to fewer binges.

It's hard to kick the habit for good. I still slip up from time to time but there was one point where I was doing it every day. Now I can go weeks without purging. I think the one hurdle that I had to pass before I could really kick the habit of binging/purging was just accepting that I needed to start eating enough to get my body to stop feeling like i was starving it. I spent so long restricting and purging that my body tried to make up for it by binging. I let go of the idea that weight gain was the worst thing in the world. Find out what your maitnence calories are and eat that for a while. If you binge then accept it and move on. Your body will eventually realize you're not trying to starve it anymore so it will balance itself out. I hope you can beat this cause you deserve a life outside of your disorder! ❤️0

Good Luck on your journey! I have been on my recovery journey for 6 years now. I Struggled with anorexia and bulimia for 10 years before I entered treatment. Recovery has been a process with ups and downs but I feel like I am in a good place now. I have had several years without binge/purging and seriously reduced the number of times I have restricted.... Please feel free to add me for support if you would like
Be mindful when tracking on here, it was initially a little triggering for me when I started and I cut cals to low, luckily I was able to pull myself out of that. I have found that focusing more on nutrients/macros has been helpful for that.0 -
Thanks Everyone for your kind words! I'm just trying to take it one day at a time.0
