60 but still young at heart

Hi All

I hit the big 60 last summer
I have piled on the pounds in recent years
Suddenly looked in mirror and didnt like what I saw
So here I am
I have found HIIT and although I only manage a beginners 10 mins per day, I do give it my all
I have been cutting back on carbs for a week and have already lost 4lbs
I have also cut out those nasty Zero drinks (possibly the cause of daily headaches)
I now try to drink 2 ltr of water each day, plus the occasional glass of fresh orange juice (well I have oranges coming out of my ears) ps i live in Greece

    Hi Helen,

I live in Dublin, Ohio, and I am 58 but like you, looked in the mirror and didn't like what I saw. I am just starting out and I have to lose 99 pounds. (I would say 100 but that sounds like so much!)

I would love to connect on here with you. It would be nice to have a motivational friend.

My odometer just clicked over to 69 years old. For me, the epiphany came a year ago, on my 68th birthday. Over the years, I had gradually inflicted a spectrum of metabolic troubles on myself -- you know, hyper-this, hyper-that, borderline diabetes, and I'd lost the ability to run, even at a modest pace or distance. I was wearing fat-guy clothes, and I didn't like my appearance. Not good!

Long story short, I threw everything into a renaissance. By summer, I'd lost the gut, had reached my high school weight and had won a ditch-the meds message from the internist.

I'm now days away from my one-year mark at MFP. I have kept the weight off, and, at 10% body fat, I'm leaner than at any time in my adult life. All this is just by way of saying that a turn-around is completely possible. As the saying goes, all it takes is all you've got.

Add me as a friend, if you're inclined, Helen and Laurie. I'll be delighted to cheer you on!

Another cheerleader here for the two of you if you're so inclined. I started here in Sept of 2013 and even though I'm generally on maintenance....MFP has become such an important part of my life that I have no intention of deserting my friends or sliding back into old habits.

Feel free to send me a friend request. I log every day and try to inspire others to do their best. Age is just a number and at 65 (almost 66), I feel better than I did in my 40's!

64 here, lost 60 pounds since August, have about another 10 to go. Started exercising (again), launched a couple of meds so far, dropped 10" from my waist and rediscovering body parts that I thought we gone a long time ago and working on the rest. Haven't you heard that 60 is the new 30? I'm making it a resolution to living the next 30 better than I did the last 30. Feel free to add me.

Wow well done. I have heard that about the age thing
I am finding it hard to think of things to eat
I live in Greece and getting hold of healthy food is proving a challenge

I'm 61 and have lived in Rome, Italy for 30 yrs. You're in Med diet country--it should be easy to find fresh food. I've been on MFP for 3 yrs. It changed my life. I push myself to do more (not less) and it shows. I swim, do aqua-gym, stretching, yoga and lots of walking at least 3x a week. I'm basically maintaining now. I've learned so much following the discussions on here. Welcome and best of luck.

Not always easy to get everything as the island often has to wait for supplies
However we have a fantastic farmers market twice a week (dont always get there as its a 50 mile round trip)
Unfortunately I love all the naughty Greek food hence the 3 stone overweight
I am learning to eat healthier and exercising every day

Hi Helen! Found you by doing a Greece search. Originally from New York City, I've been living in Greece for the past 17 years. Most of the time in Athens and part-time on a tiny island. These days it's most of the time on the tiny island. I think we probably have some things in common. Feel free to friend me.
