I like to imagine myself in smaller clothes, being healthier and more active with my granddogs, like taking them to the dog park instead of just letting them run around in the back yard. I look forward to greater confidence when I have to speak in front of people cuz I feel better and look healthier. I am starting to enjoy greater stamina in getting through my day, in spite of the health/mobility problems that I have. I have old, painful and arthritic knees and hope I can reduce or get off some of the meds I am taking. So - lots of motivation for me!!0

Well, motivation is not a thing that ever just happens to me out of nowhere. It happens after I make the first move. Trust me, there are days where sitting on the couch all day playing a game or watching TV while eating cookies and cocoa is all I want to do, but once I just get up and do something, motivation to keep going always follows. I find that the more active I am, the less hungry I am and I don't want to mindlessly snack. I know that If I just get up and step onto my treadmill, I will end up going 3 or more miles. Usually around 5 or 6 by the end of the day and even if i'm not actually on my treadmill, I find it very hard to sit back down once I have made the first step to just start moving.
It doesn't take any motivation at all to get up. Find what it is you like to do, and then just get up and do it.0 -
Looking at myself in the mirror, particularly the fat rolls. That'll do it every time!0

Sometimes seeing other peoples workout logs or weight loss success stories do it for me.0

At first it was just to be healthier and weigh less - that was enough to motivate me to establish new routines such as logging my calories and walking or running every night after dinner. Now that I've lost some weight, my new motivation is clothing. I've always taken pride in my appearance and try to dress and accessorize well. I desperately need new clothes for work as most of mine are now way too big and look ridiculous. I bought some new clothes over the last few weeks just to get by, but most of the clothes are much cheaper and lower quality than what I prefer to have for work. I'm right on the cusp of 2 sizes right now, and I won't let myself spend too much until I lose that last 10 lbs. and get down to that smaller size. So until that time, I'm stuck in these cheap clothes that I don't love.0

Nothing in particular, I just keep trying over and over again until I manage to do what I want to do. For about 10 years I had so many start/stop attempts at going to the gym and dieting, and then in 2012 it all just stuck and I lost somewhere between five and six stone. I've never looked back since, except for now, I obviously looked back now to tell you this example. You're only human, all you can do is try and try again.0

Sometimes at night when I'm eyeing ice cream or chocolate around the house, I'll spend some time on the success stories board in the MFP community - usually works for me Once in a while I'll also do some math and figure OK if I lose 3-4 lbs a month in 5 months I'll weigh... that usually keeps me excited too0

At first, it was having a strict schedule and sticking to it. Then it became natural habit. Now I still try to have routine, it helps enormously on those days when I just don't want to move.
That and progress pictures, looking at my before and afters and imagining where I can be in another 6 months if I just keep plugging at it. That and buying all of the vintage everything because it will finally all fit me!0 -

The fact that I am 42 and my father died at 58 after his second heart attack. There is a little more to the story but that is the basics. It is time to start taking my health seriously and in a loving way. In the past I would "diet" and run for the wrong reasons, I was very angry at myself and my body for failing me. I have a chronic illness that puts me at risk for CVD have HTN (not related to weight, was dx with that when I was a "normal" BMI) and one of my meds increases my cholesterol.0
