I am 26 yr old female.I am 5'6" 200 lbs. I am on a 9 day streak so far so i am new to this.i was given the goal of 1830.I am not understanding if i am supposed to consume 1830 and burn that amount in exercise daily? Or do i consume less than the given goal and exercise daily like i have been? Example:today,1830-1420+380 exercise=(calories left) will i lose doing similar to this daily? Or am i all wrong? Help pleasse!

    Your supposed to eat the1830 plus your exercise calories. Some people eat less but that is the way MFP is designed.

    Your goal is to net the number of calories MFP set as your goal.

    So no exercise
    Calories consumed = Calorie goal

    With exercise
    Calories consumed - exercise = calorie goal

    It is recommended to start with eating only 50% of exercise calories and reevaluate in a few weeks. Average weight loss more than planned, eat more. Average weight loss less than planned, eat less.

    Example:
    1200 calorie goal

    Without exercise, I should consume 1200 calories.

    Exercise/Activity level adjustment: 974

    Calories consumed - 974 = 1200

    No, she is to eat the calorie number PLUS the exercise not minus?! Why would she subtract calories that she gains from activity!?

    You should eat calories left. Or very close to it.

    @lemonychild -
    You subtract them from your total calories consumed to NET your calorie goal.

    1200 + 974 = 2174

    2174 - 974 = 1200 Net

    So I'm consuming 2174 and subtracting the 974 to get a net of 1200 calories.

    I just eat to my goal calories and don't eat my exercise calories. I average the 2 lbs per week that I have MFP set at. Works for me.

    As long as you don't consume more calories than you burn, you should lose weight.
    This should not be done through starving, rather than eating healthy 1200 calories a day and Exercise.
    Starving will cause you to Store the fat and not burn it.

    1200 calories consumed - 350 Exercise = 850 calories (You don't need to eat the remaining calories away)
    Once I eat the 1200 calories, exercise or no exercise I get my weight loss prediction given.

    The minute I don't eat up to 1200 calories - I get a notification that I should eat more.
    So hence my conclusion is: If you eat 1200 calories and you burn for e.g 1000 calories at the gym (the same day)
    Then it's ok - since I still get my healthy weight loss calculation and I try and not consume my extra calories.

    Nope. That is a myth, but it will cause you to become malnourished and all the health problems that come with it.

    MFP doesn't give predictions for under 1200, because it doesn't want to encourage eating disorders.

    Burning 1000 at the gym and only eating 1200 isn't exactly "ok". Yes MFP will give you a weight loss prediction then, but your body can only use so much of your fat mass a day. After that it starts using lean body mass (muscle, organs, etc). If your 1000 calorie burn is accurate and you are accurately logging a consumption of 1200 calories, you are then only leaving your body 200 calories for basic functions like heart beating etc. Yes it will pull some of the energy it needs from fat stores, but there is a limit to how much it can pull.

    First off, your body will not store fat if you are starving. It's impossible. Second, you should be eating 1200 calories AFTER exercise. That's a small number and you need to fuel your body with an adequate amount of nutrients.
