My name is Tate. I am 46 years old and have high blood pressure and diabetes as well as some other health issues which are complicated by my weight. About 2 1/2 years ago, I weighed 307 lbs. At that time, I started working out with weights in the hopes of just burning some calories. My body responded well to the weight lifting, and I got a lot stronger, but not really any lighter. I began to count my carbs to bring my diabetes under control, and it worked. I was able to get down to a pre-diabetic level. However, I still have not had much success losing weight. I have ate a low carb diet and worked out 5 times a week for over two years and lost about 10 lbs.
My Dr recently suggested counting my calories and recommended this app, which is why I am here. I want to get down to about 220-230 lbs. I am 6'3", so that will be a relatively healthy weight.
In addition, I recently have started doing some mild cardio work. My joints cannot take running, and I am too out of shape to do the elliptical, so I ride the stationary bike for 30 minutes. This raises my heart rate into the target area, and strengthens my knees.

I know that many have had success here with just weight lifting combined with calorie counting. You might find that once you have yourself at an appropriate calorie deficit that the pounds will move off. If you are building lean muscle mass that already burns more calories than the same amount of pounds without muscle. Basically you just need the last link in the chain of having your calories be under the amount needed to maintain by approximately 500 calories a day roughly. I would check out a couple of the weight lifting threads and ask for help there. (I'm the worst at weight lifting so I can't contribute much personal knowledge there.)0
