    If it's just water weight, it will disappear in a couple of days if your sodium level is consistently below 2300mg.

    EDIT: and you drink at least 8-12 cups of water daily.

    If it happens in short periods of time, It is "almost" impossible to gain or lose a couple pounds of "weight" overnight.

    You have to track trends over time. If you wake up one morning and the scale says you are a few pounds heavier than the week before and you didn't binge all week, just stick to your diet and be sure to drink lots of water and see what it says the next week. I can put on a few pounds overnight...of water. I know it's water because it can disappear just as fast as it appeared. However, if the weight gain trend continues...then it's something to worry about.
