Poop

My weekly weigh-in is tomorrow morning (Sat.) Even though I've been eating plenty of fiber and drinking a lot of water, I haven't pooped all week. It will make a difference on the scale tomorrow if I can't "unload" some of this today ;) . Any recommendations on a laxative? Or what about an enema (ick)? I have done so well this week and really need some good news on the scale.

Make sure you get a decent amount of fat into your diet. The last time this happened to me, I drank a cup of black coffee with olive oil while giving myself this abdomen massage. Solved the problem in about 20 min.

Coffee or prune juice should do the trick.

What happens if you don't lose weight at this weigh in? If it's not going to cause serious issues I would just accept that you'll be up and next week will be even lower. The use of laxatives and enemas is more likely to cause damage than having one bad weigh in. Most people find that drinking (or sometimes even smelling) coffee gets things moving naturally. Beyond that I highly suggest not taking anything else to help you poop.

What about eating an apple and eating beans? Really cleaned me out in hurry.

Can of salt-reduced black beans, about 112 calories.

Exercise/yoga and a bit of fat gets me moving.

Or get a deep tissue massage! That will help in lots of ways.

It will make a huge difference on the scale. Think of all the food you have eaten just sitting in your guts...that's several pounds worth! I take Metamucil every day and am very regular, you should consider a fiber supplement or upping the fiber in your diet!

Dulcolax makes a suppository. I use it when I get backed up. You should have to go pretty fast after you insert it. You'll have the urge to go pretty quick...make sure you let it work, and stay by a bathroom. It won't make you gassy like taking stool softeners will.

Poop for over 7 days, better to call the doctor. My 3-4 days before pooping is nothing on 7 days.

Seriously. I feel constipated if I miss one day.

There is no way to know. There are so many variables at work in the body that affect the scales on a week to week or daily basis. You just can't micro-manipulate the scales like that! Whst would be the point? Whether you poop or not, your long term fat loss will be the same. However, I would be concerned from a health & comfort perspective not to poop for a week. Consider prune juice or Metamucil or both. If this happens often, consider talking to your doctor.

    Taco Bell.
    ;)

But, the olive oil (or coconut oil) in coffee.

Also miralax. It's not exactly laxative, but it encourages the bowel to retain water.

How are your fat and magnesium levels?

Less food in makes less poop out. Weigh every day if weekly weigh-ins has become too much of a spectable. If you have eaten to your calorie goal all week, you will have lost weight.

Maybe weigh after the poop even if it takes a day or 2 more. Meanwhile, squat with your back supported against a wall. Squatting is a very natural way to get things moving. Of course you will head for the bathroom if it happens.

Ever hear of the Squatty Potty (I don't know how they spell it)? It's a good thing.

What is plenty in your mind? Have you been eating at least 27 grams of fibre? Coffee might help if you don't drink that already. I don't see why you need to be in a hurry to get a certain number on a scale? If you know for certain your diet has been in check then if you haven't lost weight, you already know what that is down to. If it's going to be such a negative for you, give yourself another week before you weigh and hopefully you'll have got things moving again by then. Just keep eating all of the fibre, drinking all of the water and maybe even see a doctor and things will even themselves out. I've been for days without pooping at a time and then had days where I've been on the toilet several times. The body is a funny thing like that.

Undiluted pear juice will work better than any of the above, you can get the no sugar added in the baby food isle, it works faster and better than prune and doesn't taste horrible

It's interesting to me that you are more concerned about the weigh in tomorrow. If your question was more focused on the lack of a bowel movement and how to get it going, then I could understand. That you are more concerned about how it will effect your weigh in sets up some red flags for me. Maybe take a look at your mindset with regards to your weight loss plan. If you're willing to consider laxatives to see that number go down, there is much more going on here.

Thanks for all the responses; wish I could respond to each one. Tomorrow is my second weigh-in and my concern over the number is purely from a psychological point of view. More of an encouragement that what I'm doing is working. Knowing that the number is skewed by lack of BMs helps but it's still not "accurate".

I don't think I've ever gone this long and am not SURE of the last BM but it was last Saturday at the least.

I bought some Milk of Magnesia but am not sure if I'll go through with it. I like the more natural approach, i.e. prune juice, squatting, oil. I already drink coffee & it doesn't help.

I recommend removing the poop from any of those places and flushing it to truly dispose of any excess weight. FYI.

I'm sorry, but the older I get the more important it is to poop daily. After 3 days I'd be taking every over the counter medicine possible.

Here's a big problem, though. If you take a laxative, you may end up having less waste in your system than you usually would. Thus, your weigh-in tomorrow would still be "inaccurate."

When I first started losing weight, I bought this in a misguided attempt to move things along:

I definitely lost some weight the next morning. :s

I don't recommend laxatives except as a last resort (and definitely not for weight loss). If you rely on them too often bad things can happen (like having to take them to have a BM)

I've never taken a laxative for weightloss, only when my stomach hurts so bad and I had to have relief. I've used this before and it definitely will help ease pain and help you go.

Prune juice or those gummy bears I keep reading so much about on here. Prune juice contains sorbitol as do the gummies. Also Milk of Magnesia is OK occasionally. Magnesium, the main component of MoM is an essential micronutrient so I wouldn't worry about it not being natural. When you say plenty of fiber, are you tracking that on MFP or just guessing?

Not all poop should be flushed, what would happen to the poor dung beetle if we did that? He'd be the dungless beetle.
