New Here. Questions on High protein diet and any suggestions for ms exercises.

My name is Nellie I have ms for about ten years. I am now in remission for the last three months. I joined my fitness pal in hopes of finding others who are going through the same battle. I have gained weight due to my immobility and now that I am back in the world I want to get healthy so I am around for my kids. I also just started a new career as a preschool teacher and i need to care for my health in order to teach them correctly and to be able to do my job properly. I'm 37 yrs old and do not want to be 40 and still be obese Also if I get in shape I will be able to help my husband who weighs about 500 lbs and has started his journey tonight. Any advice on what kind of meal plan that would help him or I. He talked about the high protein diet has anyone heard of it and if so does it work for men. Thank you God Bless.

Welcome to MFP. I have lost around 45 kg eating a higher protein diet (not too high) lots of good healthy fats and I cut out refined carbohydrates. I am now in maintenance at 65.8kg after being 110kg at my heaviest but I am trying to increase muscle so I need a bit more protein in my diet. Everbody is different and they all have their own opinions but this is what I find works for me and I look forward to reading all the advice given from all the successful people that have reached their goals in their way of eating. Just remember that 80% of weightloss comes from what you eat and the rest is exercise and sleep. Just keep an open mind and see what works for you. Good luck on your journey because it is a long one.0

I'm wondering if a high protein diet is not dangerous?

I eat around 2.2g of protein per kg of bodyweight which is around 145g per day and is just over what the AIS recommend as I do weight training 7 days a week. Yes too much protein can be dangerous especially on your kidneys. Just calculate your TDEE as mentioned in the getting started post above. Most of my dinners involve half a plate or more of steamed fresh vegetables bought from a farmers market, meat and chicken which is usually grass-fed and fish. This is turkey steaks grilled on my George Foreman which is quite lean and high in protein.
