Binge

A couple weeks ago I was 142 and now I'm 146. I know it's due to a lot of binge eating, which I can't really explain why it happens other than I love the taste of food. I've tried eating more at breakfast to prevent overeating at night, but it doesn't work. I'm seeing the changes when I look in the mirror. I'm beginning to look like I did my sophomore year of high school. I've had a long weight loss journey even if it's smaller than many peoples. I started at 164, lost 10 lbs. quite easily the summer of 2013, maintained 150 until the next summer where I lost another 10 lbs, etc. Last year at this time I was 135 until spring break where I gained 5 pounds in a week. That's where problems started I guess because even though I work out I always ate a lot afterwards. So I rarely got below 137 that summer. Anyways so now I weigh 146 and hope to lose 3-6 pounds in three weeks just in time for my prom. More would be better, but I know that's a lot to ask for my body. Is that too much weight loss too fast?

If you are a binge eater than that rate of loss is more likely to trigger more binge eating.0

IMO you need to settle on a reasonable deficit, which would be in the 250-500 calorie range, and just stick with it. Nobody but nobody is going to weigh you on the way in the door on prom night. Prom is such a short term way of thinking. Focus on weight management for life, not for 6 hours of some Saturday night that won't matter three months from now.0

I realized that as long as I work out more, it gives me something else to focus on unstead of food. So if I have a craving I could just workout. It's just lately I've been eating a lot more than I normally do.0

I have a plan for my weight loss. I'm going to continue to lose after prom. I'm not just losing weight for prom. It's just a goal I set so I could feel motivated to actually lose weight for an event.0

One mantra that sticks in my head, when I overthink this weight loss journey of mine is this:
ONCE I WORK ON WHAT'S EATING ME, I WON'T WANT TO EAT SO MUCH.
So I look at losing weight as a mind game. I need to change my mind, to change my body sort of mindset. Personally you need to congratulate yourself for what you have accomplished. We are our worst critics. Then another mantra (great motivational thought) is:
Losing weight is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to losing weight.
So the binge eating is your problem area. Try to eat for fuel then just eating to be filling a void, is my own advise. Keep a journal and write down the why's and when's of your binge eating. Sometimes when you write problems down, you release them. They have no hold over you. Anyways, for me, I try not to just settle for eating to be eating, but take the time to appreciate the preparing.
Thats great that you are seeing results. Pay attention to the changes. Acknowledge each little milestone, to solidify it in your mind.
Addressing the overeating is more important than the 3-6 lbs you wish to lose. Unless you understand why you do what you do, you will keep gaining and losing those same 3-6 lbs. Good luck and have a great Prom!
