I wanted to know what food/supplements I can take so that I don't feel like someone pushed me down the stairs the next day?
Any recommendations for things that do not have stimulants?
This is another level of soreness..missed working out for almost a month...never again.

Check you're getting sufficient Magnesium in your diet. Also increase your protein with 100g of Fage 0% Fat Greek Yoghurt before bed for slow release Caesin to repair those muscles.

DOMS happens due to inactivity. If you DON'T want that to happen again, be consistent. If you miss another month, DON'T attempt to workout as if you didn't miss. You scale back either the resistance, sets, or reps.
As for soreness, you don't need supplements. A good epsom salt bath soak and/or ibuprofen is fine. Don't rely on ibuprofen. Use it when you really need it (like your major DOMS).

Glutamine is a good one no stimulants and makes you feel so much better the next day

Being hurt for almost a month was a warning... take it easier next time.

Exercise just to get your burn going but no weekend warrior stuff. Give yourself a good set of stretches or yoga afterwards, then a cool shower. Stay hydrated.

Try some L-Carnitine. It has been scientifically proven to reduce muscle recovery times. Also, go easy in the gym until you are used to working out.
