Why is it when I bust my butt for an hr and a half on my kinect fitness it says I've burned over 400 calories but when I log it on myfitnesspal in order to match up the calories I only work out for 20-30 min. It's discouraging!

I'd definitely invest in a HRM so you know exactly how much you're burning!! The MFP estimates are WAY off!

you can add it in yourself to match up your true workout and burn. That is what i do for some of my work outs such as my Shred, Ripped, and Zumba. I have a HR monitor so I have adjust calories burned.

I agree with the others. I got a heart rate monitor watch a few weeks ago (I think the Timex is about $38 on Amazon right now), and there is literally a 300 calorie difference between what this website says and what my HRM says. Plus it'll help you stay in your optimal zone so that you get the best out of your workout.

What type of HRM do you have that tells you amount of calories burned? Mine just gives me a heart rate.

The calculators they use here (or Kinects) are nothing more than generic formulas that will never give you an accurate measure of your burn.

I, too, recommend getting an HRM or Bodybugg (which I use) to track your calories out. I created a custom exercise called "bodybugg" and I enter the values manually everyday.

I have a Polar FT4 that gives calories. I like it!

I use the Timix T5 G971 watch. All you have to do is put in your body weight and it'll calculate the amount of calories you burn based on your heart rate. It's about $39 at Wal-Mart right now, and I've seen it for about $38 on Amazon. I wanted something simple because all I wanted to track was my heart rate and my calories. It also beeps if you're outside your optimal workout zone, which is nice because then I can crank up my intensity.
