Lessons I learned this weekend while on vacation. Please post your lessons as well.
* Always look up food calories for a restaurant and pick foods that have a reasonable amount of calories to eat.
*Always log your foods, even if you are going over your calories.
*Make sure you get some exercise in according to your regular schedule.
*Buy bottled water at the food store so you have water to drink at all times.
*Pre-planned your eating out and log choices, so they ate available to look at while you are in the restaurant.
*Change your "Goal" to maintain weight while you are on vacation.
Please post your vacation tips.

I like to eat at some of the more popular restaurants because their calories are on the menu, or are available for search.
I still stick to my loss calorie goal because I don't want to regret what I eat
I always stay where I can work out. Even if it's just a jog around an area.
Log everything. If I eat crap, I work off the calories.0 -
Find a hotel room with a kitchenette and make easy meals that are healthy.
Sandwiches for lunch. Frozen grilled chicken or fish and veggies for dinner.
Serious money to be saved when you have a family.
Plus, restaurants take time away from beach and parks.0 -
Walk up all the lighthouses and monuments you can find.
Walking tours are better than driving tours.
Find out where the locals shop and eat. My husband and I have found some of the best holes in the wall (including a place named "Whole in the Wall") with the freshest, yummiest food.0 -
In general, I rarely eat at a restaurant more than once a day when I'm travelling
* Breakfast: I prepack pack baggies of dried oatmeal & PB2 peanut butter for breakfast in the hotel room (reconstitute with hot water from the in-room coffee pot!). Breakfast out is only interesting about once or twice on a trip. I save money and calories by having fruit and oatmeal in my room before heading out for the day
* Lunch: PICNIC! One of the most fun things to do--particularly when travelling in a foreign country--is to find a local farmer's market or grocery store for fruits and snack veggies, and then some interesting cheeses and spreads (think hummus) for lunches. It's much more fun to picnic on the steps of a museum or on a park bench than it is to
* Dinner: (1) I ignore the "popular" restaurant chains because I can eat at those at home. Instead, find something amazing, interesting and different! (2) I use good meal choice practices--e.g., lots of salads and veggies; all dressings and questionable sauces on the side; practice portion control, even if it means throwing away half a meal; and (3) take pictures of meals to make it easier to log later. It's OK--you won't feel weird because food porn is kind of a thing!.
* activity activity activity! Walk, paddle, walk, bike, walk, dance, walk, swim, walk whenever and wherever possible0 -
Great great idea on taking a picture of your meal so you can post it later!0
