Before my knee was injured I worked out every week and tried being healthy. Got this app to help. Going to have surgery. Idk what to do besides eat healthy. I don't want to be like everyone else who gains a lot. I'll admit I had a pity week now I'm back on eating healthy.

During your recovery time, set your activity level to sedentary. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to aim to lose while you're in recovery. Maintenance would be better until you're healed. If you're getting physical therapy, ask about what exercise you'll be able to do on your own. When I had a hip operation, they gave me a packet with different exercises, a resistance band, and suggested that I take short walks every day, and after a while, start increasing the distance gradually.

Thank you! Right now I'm not doing anything but my goal as of now is creating healthy eating habits as a habit. I will eat healthy but have some bad snacks or chocolate. I need to go cold turkey with the unhealthy snacks. I just want to emotionally and physically feel better the best I can.

Is there a specific reason you need to get rid of treats? If not, you can incorporate them into a healthy diet. Most of the regulars here who are successful manage to do so.

After the surgery, you will likely want to eat at maintenance or a little above. Your body needs calories for healing.

Stop thinking about some foods as "healthy." All foods can fit into your day. Think about your PLAN being a healthy plan that fits your goals.

You can probably do upper body work. Look on youtube for "Chair Boxing"
After surgery, you will get a physical therapist (ask your doctor now) that will show you appropriate exercises in the pool and so on.

I had knee surgery a couple of months ago (meniscus repair) and another coming up soon (ACL reconstruction). For the first couple of weeks I didn't track but tried to eat nutrient-dense foods and lots of protein to assist with healing. When I did start tracking I set myself at sedentary and maintenance calories and found I was actually losing weight. It wasn't until about a month after the surgery that I started cutting my calories again. During the month I wasn't tracking I didn't gain any weight.

This has just been my experience, but I'd say just try to eat as well as you can and keep an eye on the scale to make sure you're not losing too fast or gaining for the first while. My first surgery was quite sudden but since I have more warning for the next one I'm going to be cooking a lot of meals and freezing them so I'm not tempted to just pick up fast food or something instead. If you don't have someone you can bring food shopping with you try to stock up on as much as you can beforehand, pushing a cart or carrying a basket with crutches really sucks. We also set up the kitchen with a stool I could sit on while prepping food and an additional garbage can right next to the prep area to make things as easy as possible. Being able to still prepare snacks and meals made me much less likely to just gnaw on a block of cheese or something.

Feel free to add me as a friend if you want, and good luck with the surgery :)
