I snack a lot during the day. Mostly because I drive anywhere from 1-8 hrs a day, four days a week. I need a snack that is low in calories and filling so I don't feel so snacky or hungry all the time. Any suggestions?

Granola and nuts are good. They're a little high in calories but they''ll fill you with good calories. Make sure you measure out your snack first. That way you don't just keep eating.0

General Mills FIBER ONE. i put in salads instead fo croutons, in yogurt, in pudding, in soup instead of crackers, VERY filling, very low carbs/calories and great source of fiber. Works well! p.s. also in milk with a little honey - DE-LISH! good luck0

-Baby carrots or chopped regular carrots
-apples
-cook some microwave popcorn at home, by a large tub container, and eat it on the road. Healthy Pop is good light buttered popcorn for 250 calories / bag
-maybe a container of dry cheerios? think of it as eating chips. Pretzels are too calorie dense.
-bananas, or dried banana chips (using a dehydrator); the store usually sells fried banana chips which are much worse
-get a travel mug and maybe bring some tea along for the ride? it might help you stay full if you chase a snack with some good tea. Bengal Spice is my favorite from Celestial Seasonings. It's basically Chai Tea but 0 calories.
Popcorn works great. I started bringing popcorn for the road when I travel to my hometown to visit my parents. Get a larger container than you need, and you should be able to keep your car fairly clean.
Good luck!0 -
when you're counting calories, how can you tell which are good calories and which are bad? I know that it's obvious sometimes, like calories from a Snickers are worse than calories from an apple.0

thanks theseus82! Popcorn sounds like a pretty good idea. And the tea. I have a hard time drinking hot or warm liquids. But it's worth a shot. I need to quit snacking on chips and candybars.0

A calorie is a calorie. Some foods are "calorie-dense" and others are not. Things that are calorie dense are often things that won't keep you full in the long-run. Snickers is packed with calories, but the sugar will also cause a spike in insulin when your blood sugar goes through the roof from the processed sugar. The insulin makes your blood sugar crash and then you're hungry again, only an hour or so after eating the junk food.
Carrots are not calorie dense, so you can eat more of them for less calories. They also have a lot of water weight. 3 things can help keep you full:
-high water content
-fiber
-protein
Pretzels are calorie dense, but some people find them useful as a munching snack. If you like pretzels, pre-measure your amounts into small baggies. Just eating from the store-bag will lead to too many pretzels.
If you eat things like green beans, apples, carrots, etc, you will get to eat a lot more food for less calories and also get more nutrition. Although there are no "bad" calories, there are certainly "empty" calories. A sugar soda is completely empty calories. A Snickers bar is pretty much empty calories, since it won't offer any nutrition. It also won't keep you full, as mentioned.0
