carbs, protein, fat balance

Hi all! I'm hoping for some advice. I go to a wonderful nutritionist, and in the last year I have lost 30lbs - slow and steady, which she says is great for lifetime weightloss. I had an eating disorder in my early 20s, so I have to be careful. However, my nutritionist is a vegan and she has me on a high carb, fruit and vegetable diet - getting protein mainly from beans. She does not think I should eat chicken, fish, dairy, or eggs more than once a day (as in, if you have eggs for breakfast, you're done). Recently, I have been a) exhausted all the time and b) not really losing weight. I am wondering if the balance of carbs to protein and fat is off? She really is a professional and is excellent, but I know when I was younger, high protein low fat low carb worked really well for me. I have been going to her for almost two years and am hesitant to try something against her advice, but at this point it seems kind of odd that I'm not losing weight...? Thoughts? Thanks so much.

Why are you going to a vegan nutritionist with such an obvious bias? Then again, why are you going to a nutritionist at all and not a registered dietitian?

Do you take a daily multivitamin? Exhaustion could be a simple b deficiency.
Also vitamin d, iron, even calcium deficiency (a million things).
Something to consider.
I have seen the studies that taking individual supplements can cause cancer.
Such as vit A, E, selenium, zinc. Don't take individual supplements unless tested by your doctor.
Slow and steady is the way to lose weight for a lifetime/forever.

Do you pay her to preach her own beliefs? That doesn't sound professional to me
If you have lost a lot of weight, your loss will slow down (not because you have lost weight, but because you are lighter and your body uses less fuel). Have you set/adjusted your goal in MFP? Are you using the food diary here?0 -
How much fat/oils are you eating?0

It doesn't really matter whether the source is vegan or meat, but you need protein! If you're restricting calories, you'll lose muscle if you're not getting enough protein (a safe minimum is around 0.8g per pound of goal body weight). If you're doing resistance training, especially if you're new to resistance training and restricting calories too, you should be eating around 1 gram of protein per pound of your goal weight. So, if your goal weight is 130 pounds, aim to eat at least 130 grams of protein a day. Not easy to do on a vegan diet, but that's the optimal minimum protein target to prevent muscle loss. Bro-science approved! (TM)
For me, that protein target works out to about 40% of my calories while trying to lose fat. I was vegetarian for a while. When I started going back to the gym, I saw zero progress for two months, and finally it occurred to me to try supplementing protein and BAM I saw visible progress in both muscle gain and fat loss in about two weeks, it was almost instant.
Minimum healthy target fat intake is somewhere around 20% of calories. Less than that, and you risk dry skin, depression, vitamin deficiencies, and bigger problems.
I get the leftover 40% of my calories from fibrous carbs, mostly fruit and veggies.0 -
