Twice a week:
A selection of 3 fresh fruits (what looks delicious, what's cheap, what's in season, and what haven't I had for a while) - today I bought plums, loquats, pears; other regulars are pomelo, melons, pomegranate, pineapple, peaches/nectarines, apricots, passion fruit, figs, litchi/longans/rambutans, grapes, apples, tangerines, oranges.
A selection of 3 or 4 vegetables for eating raw (same criteria as for fruit) - usually carrots, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, rutabaga; occasionally kohlrabi or romanesco.
Whatever vegetables I need for dinner that day and less-perishable vegs for later in the week (corn on the cob, artichoke, parsnips, onion, garlic, chili, peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, rutabaga, mushrooms, celery, celery root, carrots, asparagus, lettuce - not all at once, lol; I do my "real" cooking twice a week, the other days are "lazy cooking", freezer meals or planned leftovers).
A quart of whole milk.
Depending on where I am in the eating up-cycle:
Crispbread - whole grains, rye
Sandwich spreads - liver paté, cheese, smoked/pickled fish, "caviar"
Fresh or frozen meat/fish/shellfish/surimi - pork chops, ground beef, T-bone steak, lamb chops, minced lamb, chicken thighs/wings/breast, salmon filets, lobster, scampi, mussels
Greek yogurt or dessert cheese - brie, port salut, roquefort/gorgonzola
Eggs
Rice, oatmeal, pasta, other grains like polenta, semolina, tapioca, barley, white and whole wheat flour
Dried beans/lentils
Frozen peas/green beans/brussel sprouts/edamame/spinach
Frozen strawberries/blueberries
Canned tuna, tomatoes (passata)
Pickles (pickled cucumber, whole small and sliced)
Nuts - peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, cashews (I've started making my own nut butters yay!), pistachios, chestnuts
Seeds - pine/sesame
Butter
Cheese for grating (parmesan)
Sliced bread, tortillas, pita
Bananas for slicing and freezing
Herbs, spices and condiments, stock, oils, lime/lemon juice, vinagers, soy sauce, sugar, honeys, maple syrup, mayo
Coffee, tea, cocoa
Cereals (don't eat often, but like to have one box, for instance Weetabix)
Instant noodles (monthly "indulgences")
As a backup I keep a stock of canned sauces, vegetables and fruit.
Occasional stuff:
Frozen pizza, lasagne, spring rolls
Cream (use tiny amount for cooking; freezes well in ice cube bags)
Ricotta
Dried fruit - apricots, raisins, dates
Jam
Flavored yogurt
Fruit teas and herbal teas
Ginger, shallots, fresh herbs.0 -
Pretty much buy the same things every week and stock up on meats when it's on sale.
Hamburger
Steak
Roast
Chicken breasts
Chicken thighs
