The social trap

Hi all!
I'm having problems with the social bit of weight loss. I'm a student, doing an exchange semester in Argentina. Partying and eating out is a big part of student life and I find it hard to eat healthy when hanging out with my friends. I have no problem eating clean when I cook for myself, but the social part is very difficult for me. Most of the time I fall for some kind of peer pressure to eat and drink what my friends are eating and drinking. Also I live with my boyfriend who loves to cook, but not healthy food. I've told him that I want to eat healthy but I don't want to insist too much with risk of sounding critical when he is just being sweet cooking for me almost everyday.

Thanks! That's a really good tip! I think I have to overcome my mother's voice resonating in my head telling me to finish my plate..0

Lots of people on these boards have mentioned the same thing: the "finish your plate" being drilled into their heads as kids. That's a good thing to UN-learn.
The thing is, you CAN still finish your plate but make sure it's a smaller portion to begin with. Order an appetizer or two at a restaurant or split an entree. You can eat the same foods as everyone else, just have smaller portions. It takes some time but best to learn it now since it's something you'll use the rest of your life.
Nice to have a boyfriend that cooks and it's also good of you to realize that making suggestions could be taken as criticism. This too, will take time. Add in vegetable side dishes to whatever he makes and probably over time he will adjust the type of food he makes. Good luck and enjoy! Sounds like a great time.0
