I went to the doctor today to find out that I weigh 233lbs, wanted to cry but pride wouldn't have it. She told me about my fitness pal and told me to just try it, so I am. I feel stupid and ashamed but I'm going to do it. In my dreams I am a size 8 and happy and one day it will be real.

Aww don't be too discouraged. You'll get back on track. How many calories does my fitness pal have you eating?

:) Use those tears to your advantage to spur you on to start on your journey to health and weight loss and don't wait until you're as old as I am to get started.

@sucora111 that is awesome that your doc sent you here. We can only hope others do like wise.

We all may eat differently and that is fine but we all do it for better health. Take your time. Dropping weight will come after you learn what works best in your case.

Welcome to MFP forums and hopefully most of your experiences here will be positive and you can tell your doctor thanks for promoting MFP.

Welcome as well from me. You can do this. Read the posts linked too here. They are well worth it and will help you be successful. Also, don't rush things. I understand the temptation to try to lose as fast as you can, but taking your time helps you to learn new ways of eating and deal with the things that brought you to where you are now. I say that as someone who did it quickly, gained most of it back, and realized I didn't really re-train myself. This time I am taking a much slower approach, taking time to learn how to eat in moderation, and to examine why I ate too much on those days where I end up eating too much. That takes time, but it is well worth it.

Welcome. MFP was a game changer for me. In my past if I wanted to lose weight I'd do Atkins or try to exercise like crazy, try to find the "secret" to losing weight, etc. Now I realize it's just calories in / calories out. Manage those and the weight comes off.

I am re- training myself to not only drink more water but to like it. My doctor told me to drink 114oz of water a day and take in protein every 3 hours a day (totaling 5 protein products) a day with an hour of exercise of at least 4 days a week. Here we go!!!! I'm worth it ( keeping it positive and determined)

Welcome! It's awesome that your doc sent you here. I was you about 2 years ago. After just one year using my fitness pal I went from 230 to 145!
You can do this. Just keep it simple and make gradual changes. Start eating what you normally do and track every bite. Look at your calories like a budget and decide which foods are "worth" the calories and which ones you can live with less of.
Once you feel like you are good with your eating, start thinking about being more active. Don't worry about hitting the gym if you don't have time or just don't like it. I lost most of my weight just walking on my lunch breaks and on my treadmill while watching tv. Find something you enjoy that makes you feel good.
