:huh:
Birthdays = cake and lunches out, often a 'set' lunch costing 3X as much as I would normally spend
Retirements = cake and lunches out, often a 'set' lunch " " "
special work event day = treats a.k.a. the candy bowl
charity events = ice cream, BBQs, pizza, corndogs
staff rewards = pizza lunch
Halloween = pre-treats and then leftover treats - it's a month-long celebration for pete's sake!
Easter = chocolate eggs everywhere for weeks
Valentines Day = candies & chocolates
Christmas = don't even get me started...:grumble:
show my appreciation = donuts in the morning, desserts in the afternoon, with the occasional gift of trail mix
Let's get together! = potluck

WARNING: Whine coming...I am so so SO SICK of it....the one place where I am easily able to follow my breakfast/snack/lunch/snack routine, because it's so clock-oriented is sabotaged on a regular basis by the foodies. I'm not asking for advice. When I don't want food, I just say no or eat less than I 'normally' would. But I just have to say it's no blessed wonder we're all so darn fat. I've been to 2 luncheons this week and had a small piece of cake twice. I'm wearing grooves in the elliptical trainer trying to offset it. O Bloody hell. :angry:

    I have this problem too!!! What I've started to do is find lower calorie versions of what I know will be at work. For example: Every payday (like today) they give us free ice cream. Usually there are about 4 different flavors to choose from..buffet style with all the toppings. So today, I brought my lowfat single serving ice cream cup and ate that. On days when I know we'll have pizza for a department appreciation thing, I'll buy lean pockets or Michelina's pizza snackers. I get the taste of the food but not the huge binge. Good luck!!

    i'm a nurse, can deff relate to this! :o/ you'd think being in the healthcare profession, people would be more health conscious? nope baha
  • I get what your saying. I work in an office to. In fact, we celebrate birthdays/annivsaries and milestones every 3 months because otherwise we would be huge! :)

    Christmas is the hardest because that is when we are busiest and we get treated a lot.

    I think you are doing great!

    So change the culture. Create a healthy morale committee, recruit all the runners, cyclists and the more generally health-conscious people in the office and plan fun-runs, bike days, bring-your-dog-to-the-park outings, hit the water park with all the kids, etc.

    I know offices suck but you have the power to change the atmosphere.

    My mom used to complain about that all the time when she worked in an office. And I saw it firsthand when I visited the office to take her out to lunch one day. But she was always slender around a size 10 and 5'11" tall. The co-workers were all "big boned" for a lack of a better word. wearing at least a size 18 or better and being my height which is 5'5".

    And the funny thing about the people she worked with was the fact that they were all MORONS. They would purposely buy her "fat free" garbage because they knew that she was a Type 1 Diabetic. She couldn't get it through their thick skulls that she needed "sugar free" if she was going to eat baked goods.

    i have one coming up tomorrow.. retirement gathering.. i'll graciously take a piece of cake back to my desk "for later". i'll have a forkful to get it out of my system then throw the rest in the trash. i know, i feel SOOOOO guilty about secretly throwing it away. but THEY aren't the ones that have to do the hard workout if I eat the cake...
