HI all :flowerforyou:

I guess my username says it all really.

I'm looking to drop around 50lbs and would like some help doing that from like minded people.

I've currently got 27 cats - most were strays that I've taken in, I've made sure they got neutered and treated for fleas etc and now they all live with me in my house. It started off small but once people heard I was taking them in a got lots of unwanted cats and kittens. All the shelters near me put animals down and I'm really against that - so I keep them with me unless I can rehome them.

I need to loose some weight as it's affecting my health and I'm worried about what would happen to the cats if something happened to me.

I'd love some support along this journey - after all it's not just for me but also for my fur babies.

Welcome to mfp. That's a lot of cats... How do you manage to stay on top of their litter? I have one and hate cleaning it?!

There seems to suddenly be a lot of odd cat threads. Is this an April fool?
  • Wow thanks for all the friend requests :flowerforyou:

Most of my cats are outdoor cats - thankfully, but I do have three litter trays in the house which I change daily. Winter is the worse as I have an extra two trays and tend to change them twice a day. The little horrors won't go outside when it snows

The litter is one reason I need to loose some weight, I having trouble carrying it in from the car as I buy the big bags.

LOL, I decided to join today as I though the first of the month was a good day to start. I did log yesterdays food this morning though - wow, what a wake up call.

    WOAH! You are really cute.

But it's basically animal abuse to lock your cats in a room while you're at work. That makes you a little less attractive to me.

    welcome to MFP!

For some reason, when I was growing up, my family's phone number was listed as a cat rescue and we kept getting calls to take people's cats. Pershaps this is what happened to you?

    C'mon people. 27?!! 27?!!!

How can you possibly give each and everyone the love and attention it deserves? Just doesn't seem fair.

So you'd rather I left them to roam wild or go to a killing shelter - wow I guess your one of the mean ones everyone has been talking about.

If I was feeding that many cats the answer to weight loss would be easy, there is no way I could afford food for them and me! Good luck on the site :)

I think cat is a pretty lean meat. You could work towards your goals, reduce your weight, reduce the number of cats in a way that isn't wasteful, and use the fur to keep the homeless in your area warm in the winter.

Pretty sure they said shut in a room by accident. Obviously you have never had cats, they are sneaky and will get in all kinds of places when you least expect it. My indoor cat snuck into the garage while I had the door open once without my realizing and spent the next couple hours having an adventure in there by herself. A couple hours later I heard howling and realized what must have happened. A single room is not that tight of space for a cat, I'm sure they are fine when it happens.

I love cats. I have 3 and that's pretty damn good for me considering I'm a veterinary technician and always have people coming into our clinic because they found a stray that needs a home. I decided a while ago that 3 was my max, though, no matter how cute the other cats are. My cats have been with each other for a while and I know a fourth would disrupt their harmony. They all actually get along really well. :) Plus the thought of having more than 3 litter boxes makes me cringe. I have to clean them twice daily otherwise one of my females will go outside the box.
