the elliptical machine that I use is exact with here... so I dunno, maybe it is the intensity youare using... does this or your elliptical say you burn more calories?0

My machine says I burn a whole lot more. Just curious...i would like to think I am really burning what my machine says! haha i.e 45min...~850cals...MPF says...about 5500

Mine was opposite. MFP said I burned twice as many as the machine said!0

Part of me wants to say MFP, because you've entered your stats like height and weight, but you can (usually) enter your weight into the machine and then it tracks your heart rate ... hmm. I usually go by my heart rate monitor, since it knows a bit more more of my stats. I just did 30 minutes on the elliptical tonight, and the machine put me at 270-ish calories, while my HRM was around 330. If you can swing it, I definitely suggest investing in a HRM -- you won't regret it! And if you're anything like me, you won't ever want to be without it!0

Does it ask your weight? It seems a little high but I think it depends on your weight and of course how fast you are moving. I do 40 minutes and burn 500-520 and I'm assured by the trainers that it's accurate. :flowerforyou:0

My recent experience:
MFP = 642
Machine = 586
HRM = 501
I always go with the lowest when doing elliptical training. Otherwise I always go with my HRM.0 -
mine is opposite as well, MFP says more than the machine... but 850 for 45 mins seems totally high, you'd have to be sweating all over the floor.
i work between levels 6-14 and get my heart rate up high (into the 150's) and i would never presume that i could burn 850 in 45 mins... i'd say the 500's would be more realistic.0 -
my elliptical is the same way, MFP says less than the machine. my elliptical workout has good intensity but i go by what MFP says only because the calorie counts change with your weight.0

I always went with what MFP said, that was until I got my HRM w/chest strap. Now I go by what the HRM says, which has been less than what MFP says.0

A 150 lb person will burn about 250 calories in a half hour on the elliptical. add or subtract 25 or so for weight (a very heavy person will burn more, maybe 300?) and add maybe 25 more if your workout is particularly strenuous. Sure it varies from person to person but in reality, it doesn't vary *that* much. the only way to know exactly is with a HRM.0

I USE THE ELLIPTICAL MACHINE FOR 30 MINUTES AT LEVEL 13 AND MY MACHINE SAYS I BURN 410 AND MFP SAYS 440. I WOULD SAY THAT IS CLOSE ENOUGH. 850 SOUNDS QUITE HIGH AND I WOULD SAY THAT 45 MINUTES WITH MFP AT 550 CALORIES SOUNDS LIKE THE MORE ACCURATE NUMBER BASED ON MY RESULTS.0

Haha! I was sweating....but I didn't believe the machine and went with MFP status....good to know about the HRM's...I'll have to look into getting one!mine is opposite as well, MFP says more than the machine... but 850 for 45 mins seems totally high, you'd have to be sweating all over the floor.
