Fitbit Adding too many calories from exercise?

Hi,

I've linked my fitbit to MFP. All the calories burned from my fitbit profile are added to my MFP exercise calories. My fitbit, by default, burns 20 cals/15 mins which equates to 80/hour or 1,920 per 24 hour period.

These calories are ADDED to my fitbit calorie goal which is currently set to 1,700 (with a target of losing 1.5lbs per week!). This means MFP is telling me I can eat 3,620 calories per day and this is assuming I do absolutely nothing!

I know this is clearly wrong. The solution would be for either:-

- the "default" calories from fitbit to be excluded from the exercise calorie count;
- there being a way to edit the goal calorie count on fitbit.

Either would be ideal.

Anyone else having the same problem?

Thanks

Danny

Do you have negative adjustments enabled on MFP? If not:

I don't know of a way to do this via the MFP app and I do not believe there is a way as of now.

ETA: Did you just get your Fitbit? If so, the first few days of adjustments may be wonky because Fitbit is getting to know you, so to speak.

Hi thanks for the quick response. I have had my fitbit for a while and I stopped using MFP because of the issue I have been having. I decided after a few months I wanted to start using MFP again so I started looking around for a solution.

I noticed you can amend your calorie goal but on the smartphone app you can only insert a positive number. On the website you can type in a negative number. I've managed to set my goal to a negative amount now so all good!

    Thanks again

I have a Fitbit and never had this problem. MFP only adds my excersise calories burned during timed workouts. I dsnb2jloe17t.png
added a screenshot of today's diary. This is after my morning workout, breakfast and snack. My Fitbit shows just over 1100 for the day so far

This is not really a good solution for the problem, though. Would you be willing to take a screenshot of what the Fitbit adjustments look like for you?

No. You're not interpreting it correctly, who has the activity that steady and who is up 24 hrs a day to complete an EXTRA 1900+ cals in activity. I think that is simply your TDEE and it would look something like 1900 - 1700 places u at 200 deficit.

I wish Fitbit had a way to have BMR separate from activity cals, although MFP does that for you.

My fitbit sends me calories that are spot on. I wonder if something is wrong in your settings. Have you double checked what you gave both programs for stats - height, weight, etc?

The Fitbit adjustment is the difference between its forecast of your TDEE and what MFP thinks your TDEE is. If you leave the Fitbit on the desk it shouldn't add any calories to MFP but may subtract some if set to allow negative adjustments

I had a similar issue with MFP syncing with FitBit this week and it drove me crazy. I checked out my settings and it had my birthyear as 1000 (or something) and I corrected that. I also disconnected and then reconnected my FitBit to MFP (go to "Apps & Devices" section and then "My Apps"). Both of those things have resolved the issue so far.
