Hello Everyone,
It took me 2 years of losing, gaining, and losing to find out I have hypothyroidism. 2 years ago I weighed 160 and now I am 148lbs. I only lost 12lbs in 2 years. I have tried HCG diet, P90X, and now Slim in 6 with My Fitness Pal. 4 months ago one doctor told me I couln't lose weight because of my age. I am 34 years old!! I eat healthy, exercise 6 times a week, drink lots of water, and hardly ever drink alcohol. I found out soon after from another doctor that I have hypothyroidism and I have been on thyroid meds for 4 months. Friends and family ask if I am eating too much or too little. I am still eating healthy with my fitness pal calorie counter and I still exercise 6 times a week.
Does anyone else have hypothyroidism advice or advice in general? I really want to lose 25 or more pounds.
Thank you all,
Jeagirl

Yeah the doctor who told you you can't lose weight because of your age is an idiot. Never go to him/her again.
Good luck here!0 -
I think weightloss for everyone with Hypothyroidism is 2 things. 1.) extremely hard. It seems so easy for us to gain then lose. 2.) Time consuming... Although I find its easier to breakdown my calories now (and I just learned this recently) Instead of "meals" I'm doing snacks... 4 times a day then a meal for dinner. No sodium or carbs since our bodies have a metabolic issue to begin with. Since your body burns carbs first. The less carbs in the more fat burned off. Your my age & I lost 78 pounds in 7 months of trying!
I have a lot more to go but I'm going. Best of luck0 -

It's funny (actually scary), but doctors sometimes give very poor fitness advice... They are generalists, NOT specialists in nutrition and weight loss.
A doctor once told me that when I was playing semi-pro football during a game "I shouldn't lose any water weight during the game because I should be able to keep up with drinking"
.... Thats so wrong it's not even funny. I would have literally had to drink over a gallon of water in 3 hours, WHILE doing extremely strenuous exercise.
I've gotten incredibly bad advice from doctors before, you really should talk to a specialist.0 -

Thank you Do you find that hypothyroidism causes us to lose weight a lot slower? I feel depressed because it took me 2 years to shed 12lbs. Thank you for your comment.

I have hypothryoidism and am losing weight. The main thing is to get the meds figured out. It takes a bit to figure out what dosage gets your levels back up to normal. It took 6 months to get my dosage right. I'm losing weight fine (slow and steady). Another friend of mine with it also lost weight. No worries!
Once your thyroid level is back in a normal range, your body will respond like it should. Hypo will NOT stop you from getting to a good weight.0 -
I have hypothyroidism. I am 36. Doctors told me "you will always be over weight....there nothing that we can do." Finally I found an Endocrinologist who took me serious and works with me. I am winning the battle but fighting the war. YOU can do this. Stick to it. eat Clean. Be aware of the foods that you should not eat. These are my blogs that I have written. I am NOT a doctor. I am learning on my own, with a little help. FInd an Endo that will listen to you. I hope the blogs help.

Great information everyone! Thank you. I am 5'2" and I weigh 148. I would love to be 125lbs again. I did not like the doctor who told me that I was "too old", She was over 45 years old and size 0 and she has the nerve to tell me it's my age. I was so mad. Anyways, I want to prove her wrong. Anyone good websites for how to lose weight with hypothyroidism?
Thanks again for all the advice. I am new at this online forum thing. I think it is great and will help out so much.
Cheers,

CoachKaren,
I love your blogs! Really great stuff. I am going to have to find a Endocrinologist soon. I work out 6 days a week an hour a day and I eat really healthy. What does it mean to eat clean? I want to learn more about that. Thank you so much for your advice and encouragment.
Thanks,
Jeagirl0
