Weight loss is calories in vs. calories out.
Running burns a fair number of calories, but if you're not watching portions you can still struggle to lose weight. For me, I just do the exercise I enjoy. Keeping the weight off is something I struggle with, so my goal is to make exercise a lifestyle change.0 -

Oh yes, I portion control and I have been losing weight through jogging and eating healthy. What kind of exercise do you enjoy?0 -
Doesn't matter. As TeaBea said weight loss comes down to calorie balance. If you keep the calories you consume, less than what you burn in a day (not just what you burn with exercise, but a full days calorie burn) you will lose weight.
Running burns a lot of calories. I've heard people say that when they run long distances that they find they are extremely hungry afterwards. If your not watching your calories, the hunger they are talking about could easily undo any deficit they had before the running. (I'm not to the long distance point yet. The most I run is 3-4 miles, but usually less than 3. I have more of a hunger issue after lifting, but that's just me)
If you like to run; run. If you like to dance; then dance. If you like to walk; then walk.0 -

It all depends on what your goal is. Running (jogging) vs sprinting. While long distance running is good for your overall endurance. In the long run does less for you as far as weight loss because the body gets used to it. Most will agree that a mixture of slow (jogging and long distance), fast (sprints) and hill training will give the desired results.
Ultimately it comes down to eating healthy, a good routine and genetics

I like to use HIIT on the stationary bike, go a couple miles on the rowing machine at a fairly hard resistance, treadmill with high incline and my favorite is hiking with a heavy backpack.
I am going to start jogging when the weather stays nice in my area, but i wont cut out the other forms of exercising i mentioned.0 -

The body improves its fitness level which allows you to run faster and longer, but in terms of calorie burn, the body does not "get used to it". It still burns the same amount of calories. It feels easier because your aerobic max has increased and now the old workload/speed is a lower % of your maximum, but that does not affect calorie burn.
And even if it did, there is a simple solution: run faster. It's not like you are assigned a running speed when you start and it is illegal to ever change it.

High intensity intervals! Studies have proven that they are great for weight loss. By no means give up jogging if you like it, but to torch fat even when you aren't working out, add some muscle and do intervals!0
