Starting Over

So, I've tried just about everything.
I had a lot of success on Weight Watchers until they implemented Points Plus. I lost 23 pounds and then plateaued. I couldn't hit my 25. Then, points plus. I've gained back about 10 pounds in the last few months, and I've been trying really hard to lose again. The gain is part my fault, part steroids. I came back from vacation with a crazy rash, so I've been on steroids (which my aunt lovingly calls "the eating pills." My boyfriend is going to grad school in about a month and a half in another state, and all the stress has me eating things I shouldn't.
I'm 25 years old, considered obese, and tired of not getting anywhere.
Any former WW members have some advice?

Hey there!
Tough break having to be on steroids, my aunty also has to have them and struggles to keep her weight down on them.
I haven't done WW either, but have tried sooo many times to loose weight!!!
Just wanted to say good luck and I hope you find something that works for you0 -
Ok, first try not to be so hard on yourself. That's the first step in the right direction. No body's perfect, and you probably need to do a little meditating or breathing to help calm some stress. I'm 25lbs overweight; I've been trying for the last year to get it off, but I too get the munchies at night and eat things I know I shouldn't then gorge myself on the weekends. Vicious Cycle. I eat right during the week and awful every other time (and I really enjoy drinking beer or martinis or wine with my friends)! That's my story, so I know how hard it is to stay on track too, and I'm starting over! From Scratch.
Next, you may want to try to change your attitude or view on "dieting" and try to consider it a lifestyle change and not a "diet." Also, don't have the mentality of "if I lose" try saying "WHEN I lose." This is how I lost all my weight back in 2007, and I kept it off until I got married in '09. I never said "I'll fit in those jeans IF I lose" it was always, "I'll fit into those jeans WHEN I lose."
I would keep a pair of skinny jeans or a cute little dress hanging on my closet door, so everytime I went into my room, I would see that dress or jeans and it would keep my mind on eating right the whole day. I would get on the scale every day and especially on Friday so that the weekends would be easier.
Now it's time to get motivated! I don't know what to say about the cortizone, but try to get out of the house/kitchen as much as possible. AND if you don't have any temptations in the house then you're less likely to eat it! If you love ice cream, and it's your weakness, then leave it at the store. Make yourself go out for treats, then you'll think about it more. Try to eat more of the good for you foods, veggies, fruits, lean protein, etc. and try not to worry so much about how many WWP or whatever, but how you feel, and look at the portions you put on your plate before you sit down at the table, and DON'T go back for seconds. Try using smaller plates like salad plates for your meals, this will help cut down on portions.
I hope I helped some. You can do this. You can lose the weight. You WILL lose the weight! We're all here to support you in any way we can! We'll do it together!0 -
Hi I did weight watchers a couple of years ago and lost nearly 3 stone. Decided to do it again starting 1st January 2011 to try & loose the last approx stone and have not lost a single pound. I found that if I did a minimum of 5 days exercising and WW I stayed the same weight but if I dropped the exercise to 3 or less one week but stayed on track with WWI would put on 1-3lbs in one week - utter rubbish - thats when I found this site and to be honest counting calories is so much easier as everything has a calorific counter on it (in the UK it does I hope its the same in the US)
Read some of the message boards on here I have found them to be so encouraging and have really spurred me on
Good Luck0 -
Thanks!
I know it's a bad idea to post an intro when you're feeling sorry about yourself - and that's exactly what I was feeling! I just saw some photos of myself and got all "woe is me!" Shame on me!
Thanks, Misswait. Encouragement always helps.
Kappy, those are all really good points. I think I had forgotten about all those little tricks, or at least buried them enough not to abide by them. Thanks for reminding me! Now I remember that tea is better for me than coffee, because I like a lot of cream in my coffee. And I'll drink my water if I put limes in it. You're right - I need to stop thinking of "if" and start thinking "when" and this will be a lot easier to commit to!
Fiabka, I'm really confused by the new WW plan. I understood the Momentum plan, but as soon as they made fruits 0 points, my weight started to go up. I know it's good to eat fruit, but when you eat 3 oranges a day, you're not going to lose if you don't work out! WW was easier before - and you could succeed without exercising. I'm going to poke through the Message Boards on here right now.0 -
Hi there -
I have been a WW since 2002. I had success with the plan and managed to maintain my weight. There were times I was above my happy weight range and required me to lose the extras. NOW is also one of those times. I tried PP but didn't have any success. I know the Momentum plan like the back of my hand. I just started on this site about a week and a half ago. I was so used to my eTools and struggled without it. This site lets me track online and on my phone but from a calorie perspective instead of points. So far, I like the change!
It is a lifestyle change. You have to make the changes in order to keep the weight off. We all struggle which is why we're here! One choice at a time, one foot in front of the other.0
