This one's for the guys....

Hey everyone.
I used this site last year but didn't keep up with it and now I'm
bigger than ever. I haven't weighed myself in a few months but
the last time I did I was 320lbs. I am 6' 5" and have always had
what my wife so lovingly refers to as a "gorilla" build.

My first long-term weight loss goal is to drop down to 265lbs.
Now my question is this:
How feasible and safe would it be to try to achieve this weight
by June of this year?

I've read other posts where people say it's okay to lose more than 2lbs.
a week if you're drastically overweight. Well I would say I fall into that
category.
Thanks for any responses.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but it's feasible to lose 2 pounds a week. As far as going for the 3 punds a week deal, I would be really careful doing that. I would think that it would send your body into a little shock.

Well, you have 5 months from now = approx 20 weeks, so you could lose 2lb a week, that'd be a lose of 40lbs.
I was originally 248lbs in September, I'm now 213 - just 4 months later, and I've lost anything from 1lb - 7lbs in a week, not always the same loss, but a loss never the less.
I don't see why you can't lose 55lbs in 5 months, check with your doctor first though - just as a precaution.
Also, bear in mind, if you lose too much weight to quickly, you can put it back on and then some - not saying you will, but it is possible.
Good luck & welcome back :flowerforyou:

Ok I know I'm not a guy but...Guys lose faster than women since you don't have estrogen to get in the way. Also us bigger people lose faster at first so that should help, too. I think it is totally feasible and I know you can do it with a little extra work. Good luck!:drinker:

    any blood pressure issues?

    general health?

For that level of weight loss I would see a doctor who specializes in this area. Having said that...here is what I would do....

GET HEALTHY GRADUALLY....why put a deadline on it? The way to succeed I have found is to think of this whole deal as a lifestyle change not a deadline for a certain level of weight loss. We are in this for the long run...what happen's after June? OK to gain it back?

of course not....I would start the process and never finish it.....we dont want to finish...because we are going to eat healthny and exercise for the rest of our lives right? YES and you can do it

take it easy...start reading on here and thinking...

read the South Beach Diet book...read Atkins Diet Book...I am not saying go on those but they have some good info you can use for your own program...

    GOOD LUCK
    Dave

Of course I'm not going to stop after June, that's just my
first goal. After that my target weight to maintain will be
    between 205-220lbs.

My blood pressure was always lower than average before I became fat. When I
eat healthy for a week or two, it will drop to 115/73.
And I've read all the books, magazines, articles, etc. I have the knowledge needed
to lose weight and be healthy, I just have been too lazy to apply it.

The reason why I geared this post towards the guys is to see if anyone has had
experience losing this much weight in this amount of time and if it was a success.

I can only speak for my personal experience, of having done yo yo diets all my life.....that even though I have a certain weight goal in mind, it is easier on me to take it one week at a time and be glad if I lost 1 pound or 3 pounds, then there is very little disappointment if I don't make a certain amount that week. Learning to eat healthy for what life I have left now may make those years left of better health. Wish you only the best.

    Maybe I missed it,
    but why June?
    What's the goal?

    What's the goal?

Each summer for the past 3 years my daughter has asked me to
take her to the water park. Each year I tell myself that I am going to
lose enough weight so I can at least be comfortable enough to take
    off my shirt.
Well, I'm sick of letting her down so I made myself a promise that this
year I will take her no matter what.

    Way to go Dad!

Focus on good snacks during your day, and work on avoiding heavy dinners, and you'll do just fine. Oh...and drink lots of water...good water, like spring or mineral....not so much the purified stuff.

Keep posting your food and exercises on the respective tabs so you can monitor your behavior.

The feedback is non-stop here, so use this site when feeling like you want to give up, give in, or encourage us with your progress.
    Cheers!

That is one of the best goals I have ever heard.
But even if you aren't able to reach your aggressive goal in time, know that by next June, you will be svelte out in the water park. Don't give up. Do this. I'm excited for you because I know that you can succeed!!

And I mean that to say that you still take her this year, obviously. (Wanted to clarify) :flowerforyou:

As the others have suggested I think that a visit to your Doctor with your goals in hand would be a great and a well founded start. That is what I did. I started last Feb/March at 272 and weighed in yesterday 207. I used a controlled diet and a lot of exercise. I used Jillian Michaels tapes and I am now a P90X graduate and doing it again and I am 55 years old. I hit a couple of places last year that I really struggled getting through the 220's. I had to up my calories to bust through . Use this web site! Track everything that you eat and do. It will really help if used correctly. Stay focused and you will succeed! My best wishes to you! One last thing, for me it was really not a diet persay, but a life style change.
