Hey everyone, I started my weight loss journey exactly 3 weeks ago. I am down 16lbs so far. The first week I lost just over 8 lbs which I believe is normal from loosing water weight. The second week was easter and that week was a fail I think I lost maybe 1 lb. But this past week I have got back on track and been excersising every day and losing about 1 lb a day. I weighed 255 at 5ft 8 and am now 239. I am weighing myself in the morning after using the washroom. Question is, is this healthy? I am deffinatley starting to notice it in my body clothes are fitting looser etc. I am not starving myself by any means I am consuming about 1600 calories a day.

It can be quite a lot depending on obesity levels, and the diet before changes. High sodium diet can really cause you to retain a lot of water.

Just don't expect the weight loss to stay that way, it will taper down as you start to burn fat stores.

Same thing happened to me when I started.

You're consuming 1600 but what is your NET after exercise?

You may be undereating for the activity you're doing, creating a larger than necessary (or wanted) deficit. That's why you're meant to eat at least a portion of your exercise calories back. Your NET calories are supposed to equal your calorie goal (before exercising).

For example, you eat 1600 calories and you burn 500 calories in exercise. Mathematically, it looks like this:
    1600 (goal) - 500 (exercise) = 1100 NET

1100 NET is too little and definitely not appropriate for someone with your stats or activity, right?

So, what you do is eat those calories back.
    2100 (consumed) - 500 (exercise) = 1600 NET
And you've reached your 1600 goal and still lose weight.

That being said, it's probably still early in the game for you. You may be holding onto water still. I was pretty much done with water losses in my 3rd week. It really just depends on your starting point, activity level, calories, etc. However, with your height and weight, I would say in general, 1 lb a day is too much. You should only be going for 2 lbs a week at most.

1 lb in a week is not a fail...especially with a holiday that week.
I wouldn't aim for losing more than 2 lbs a week for a healthy sustainable rate of weight loss. You could probably eat more than you are. Are you eating any of your exercise calories? Because with MFP you are supposed to eat a least some of those.

I think it is fine since you started at a higher weight. I've lost 12.5 lbs in 4 weeks. I just lost 1.5 lbs in a day from starting my cycle, but this is probably all water weight. If you feel more hungry then add an extra 100, but 1600 seems like a good target. I personally strive for 1300-1600 depending on the day.

You're losing something; I don't think any body is able to convert fat at that pace however. There are very very very few 'special snowflake' instances when it comes to science.

It will slow down. And yes this can happen. I lost a lot of water weight the first 2 months! ( medical condition)

Eating 1600 calories and when you exercise a part of those calories is not bad at all. Give it some more weeks it will slow down for sure.
Everybody is different and weight will fluctuate also differently for different people.

You have too look at the overall trend ( downwards) sometimes your weight is more up ( salt intake or period etc) sometimes more down.

Just make sure you NET the around that 1600 calories and in the long run you will see it levels out.

It sounds like it's normal when you have a lot of weight to lose. I started at 290 and dropped a little over 20 lbs in about a month and a half.
