i personally have went full vegan for about 5 months now. vegetarian for about 3 years. i went from 395 pounds to 294 in a year by cutting back on fast foods and not eating any meat not even fish. i had to cleanse my body. i lost this weight not even excersing. just from cutting away sweets and meat and replacing it with veggies and fruit and soy. and gluten free stuff. once i started exercising at 294 pounds i lost 44 more pounds in about 5 months. i recently started going to the gym and lost 6 pounds in 9 days. its possible. any questions just let me know.

Cutting meat has nothing to do with weight loss. Cutting calories does. But well done on the loss, that's a lot. I hope you take all your supplements like B12 etc.

^This. If you lost weight it's because you cut calories, not because of any particular food you cut out. I've lost 70lbs still eating meat, sweets and gluten. You don't need to 'cleanse' your body.
Still, congrats on the loss! Good luck with the rest of it :)

You lost weight because you went from 4000 calories to 1500, not because you cut out meat.

Then your overall calorie intake went down and allowed you to lose the weight. Good job.

If those 1500 cals were all from meat you still would have lost the same amount.

Congrats on the weight loss but as others have said its not because you have cut meat out your diet it's because you're eating less calories generally.

If you lost weight it is because you where in a caloric deficit.
Becoming vegan or vegetarian isn't needed for weight loss.
All you did was reduce your calories so you lost weight. Calories in - calories out. Weight loss comes down to calories not becoming vegan or vegetarian.
I could eat vegan 100% of the time and still gain weight. Because again, it comes down to calories.
I could eat 4 steaks per Day and still lose weight, again because it comes down to calories .
If you like being vegan, that's great! Go for it ! But don't accredit weight loss to being vegan because weight loss comes from a calorie deficit. There's plenty of overweight vegans.

I've lost all my weight and have kept it off for 2+ yrs so far .I ate the foods I liked. I ate at a calorie deficit to lose weight. Weight loss comes down to calories.

Cleanses don't exist. Switching out meat for soy doesn't make anyone slim. Going gluten free has no benefits unless you've got celiacs. It's great that you've lost all this weight, but it's harmful to promote untruthful claims.

That's why you lost weight. You'd have to pry my rib eye from my cold, dead hands but eating them doesn't keep me from losing weight. (Thank god!)

I averaged a weight loss of 5lbs/week for 5.5 months straight. That converted to about a 16,000 calorie (2300/day) deficit/week for the whole period.

I went to 1200-1500 calories/day. I ate really protein rich foods so I wouldn't be hungry. (5 egg whites for breakfast with a little salsa and cheese). Big Steak or chicken or pork and salad for dinner. Salad with small protein for lunch.

In order for me to keep the caloric deficit though, I had to workout to the tune of 800-1000 calories/day. That is a long hard workout each day.

    I tracked everything in MFP.

I slowly put most of the weight back on.

I am now doing it again. This time however I am averaging only 3.4 lbs/week. I am working out a lot less but still eating in the 1500 calorie/day range. I also went on a cruise in the middle of this journey but am holding on to the 3.4 lbs/week.

I'm planning on a softer landing this time round. When I get to 10 lbs of my goal weight I am going to start to add back calories a little at a time.

Losing weight is not tough for me. Gaining weight is easy for me. Maintaining my weight is really really hard for me.

    Congratulations on your weight loss.
I went vegetarian for 4 years and found it a positive experience, but not one I chose to maintain.
    Keep it up!

    More like-
People that tell the truth will continue to tell the truth

There's nothing hater-hating about telling the truth and keeping misinformation from being spread about.

What if a newcomer saw this thread and thought they would have to give up meat or go vegan to lose weight ? That would be a shame ! Sadly many people come here without much knowledge about weight loss so will grasp onto whatever they read. So it's important to keep the facts straight.

As you can clearly see, I have no reason to hate on anyone. I have been extremely successful at weight loss and maintaining my physique. So I have no reason to hate on anyone.

Fact is that one does not have to give up meat or go vegan to lose weight.

The fact about half of protein converts to glucose is a factor some of us have to consider if we need to monitor BG levels.

I lost a lot of weight when I became vegetarian when I was 14, I think it was body adjusting. I wasn't counting calories.

They're not hating, just pointing out that the changes that they put into play for their loss are not absolutely necessary. Also it can also cause an increase of weight after they decide to go off being vegetarian because it's not sustainable, and start eating at higher than maintenance.
There's no one perfect way of how to lose weight by eating XYZ (the foods, not the calories), it's all about how we decide to do so, and by learning why it worked and ensuring it's a sustainable change that can be done for life.

If they were hating, they'd tell the OP to stick his carrot where the sun doesn't shine and that they were off to enjoy a plate of bacon because real men eat bacon.

Edit: OP, congratulations on your success, I hope you learned lots from your loss so you can continue/maintain!

You don't have to be counting calories to eat less then you burn.
For weight loss one must eat at a calorie deficit
If you went vegetarian and lost weight, it was because you where at a calorie deficit. You ate less then you burned.
    Weight loss - calorie deficit

There's actually a group on here who decided to eat only meat ( I have no idea what thread it was on ) they have lost weight. Because they where eating at a calorie deficit.

The foods people decide to eat are totally up to them. ( what one person considers healthy is totally different then what the next person will consider healthy ) everyone is entitled to eat whatever food groups they want.
The one thing that won't change is that they must eat at a calorie deficit for weight loss. Regardless of what foods they decide to eat or decide not to eat
Picking a special diet doesn't guarantee weight loss . it comes down to the calories for weight loss

I find it inspiring when I see people make a diet change that they enjoy and that naturally keeps them at a healthy weight. Go you!

I could never do it though....

Hey two years ago I felt the same way but when certain death was in my face I make the change and once again am living with hope. I bet you just have not found the right motivation yet. Best of success in finding the motivation.

Yes I understand. I went to Forks Over Knives forksoverknives.com/ some said they were doing. It was no meat and no cheese but per the marketing material it was working for some people. I do eat less meat than ever because LCHF limits on protein is less than I at for the first 63 years of my life for sure.

My current thought the best Way Of Eating is the WOE that one likes and it brings about the desired health goals. :)

def about calorie intake. the vegan diet helps u eat alot cleaner and keeps u away from chemical based foods.
