A cup is a North American measurement roughly equivalent to 240 ml or half a pint. It's generally used for wet stuff, although sometimes it's used for dry foods aswell such as flour or sugar. I had to change all my English recipes to Canadian measurements when I moved over here! It was a little confusing at first! Hope this helps.0

is it the same as the cup size they reccomend for drinking water?

A cup measurement is 8 oz. LIQUID and is the amount considered to be the cup of water. Don't confuse weights and measures though. 8 oz. liquid does not always traslate into 8 oz of solids. Use a scale to weigh your foods.0

Thats kinda funny... this site has to be a bit frustrating for the Brits.0

North American recipes tend to measure by volume rather than mass. Straight 'cup -> weight' conversions can be inaccurate e.g a 'cup' of rice will weigh far more than a 'cup' of brocolli
Many foods in the database have more than one entry. If you look through them for the item you're wanting you can usually find one that is measured in grams or ml.
