Contest prep and crossfit together?

I'm loosing BF to get ready for a natural bikini contest in November but really have the urge to get involved with crossfit. It's a challenge I've always wanted to do and I'm really itching to get started!

My main focus at the moment is loosing body fat I have to loose 14% to be ready for prep but thinking crossfit could help... So lifting heavy 4 times a week along with steady state cardio and crossfit 2 times a week... Would this be bad / wrong / setting myself up for failure?

My nutrition is on point too... Been seeing some great results... I know my priority should be contest prep, and it is, just want to know what your thoughts / advice would be in starting crossfit now?

Thanks in advance!

Crossfit may hinder your recovery from your contest prep training. My advice is to talk to your trainer/prep coach. If you don't have one I'd use the money you plan on spending on crossfit for a coach to help you through prep. You might be fine doing crossfit for a few months early on, but you won't have the strength or stamina towards the end.

This is mostly what I was thinking. Just to add, if you do choose to start crossfit, I'd scale everything way down and treat it as a cardio session.

my advice is similar to above.

You need to take this time to train in the most efficient way for your aesthetics possible. crossfit is not going to get you there as it focuses more on training for strength, power, etc.

Invest in a coach who can guide you through prep (which, in my opinion shouldn't last more than 12 weeks of dieting down) and go from there. in the mean time i suggest you train specifically for hypertrophy while you still can. Again, hire a trainer who can help you with this.

I won't even get into the possibility which is very real of injuring yourself with crossfit which will most definitely impact your competition.

I'm thinking along the lines of the above posters. If you're following any sort of strict workout regimen, which you should be, I can't imagine that cross fit would fit well into that.

I do Crossfit with my powerlifting training and I do well in PL. I do have to back off my workouts and make them much shorter during a peaking period before a meet. That being said, I eat a ton to keep up with it (2500-2700 calories per day). It would be very, very difficult for me to eat in a deficit while doing that so I can't even imagine what you would go thru in a bikini comp prep. I didn't have the work capacity to do both when I first started CF either. I had to work up to it over time.

Awesome guys. Thanks for the advice. I guess deep down I knew it wouldn't be right to do right now but needed the reassurance. Thank you everyone :)

Question how long is a normal crossfit workout last per session?

It's usually about an hour, but broken into three components (warm up/mobility, strength, and WOD). The WOD is a high intensity circuit that typically is 10-20 minutes.
