replaced the buns on my turkey burger with rice cakes. It was amazing. They actually held up really well and if anything were cleaner than using a bun surprisingly! The saltiness also enhanced the flavor of the turkey burger!(: it was so good. I'm probably not the first person to do this, but it was my first time trying and it was on point! Now I'm gonna get on a rice cake kick lol...

I wrap in lettuce or cabbage, but I don't miss bread buns either. It wasn't till I started eating them without bread buns that I noticed how much the bun stole from the burger flavorwise.0 -

Skip the rice cakes. Replace with two portobello caps or thick eggplant. Rice cakes give you nothing, nutrition wise.
Yeah but it's something different. You can always add veggies. It also adds texture. Sometimes using mushroom caps is boring considering they become meaty when cooked. So you're biting into meaty feeling portobello, then the burger, then the other meaty portobello. I like those contrast in textures lol. As long as I'm hitting micros throughout the day, I'm not worried about using the rice cakes.

I use rice cakes with nut butters and salsa. With burgers I usually eat wrapped in lettuce leaves. I rarely eat sandwiches unless I am in the mood for plain toast with butter0
