I don't have diabetes, but I found this article interesting:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/jun/24/low-calorie-diet-hope-cure-diabetes
Essentially, the study found that 8 weeks on a severely restricted calorie diet (600 or below) CURED type 2 diabetes.

That is totally amazing! Goes to show that eating right only makes you healthier! Thanks for sharing that! :drinker:0

I wonder if it has more to do with a dramatic weight loss than the drastic calorie reduction? It seems that people who lose a bunch of weight, through not so extreme diet and exercise over a longer period of time, have been able to go off diabetes medications. I think I would have to lay around for 8 weeks to survive! So. Hungry.

Yeah, I dont know the answers to those questions. Weight loss CAN cure diabetes 2, for sure. My mother-in-law changed her lifestyle and lost 20 pounds and her diabetes is so much better and her doctor said she is on the way to reversing it. And, I've heard many others reverse theirs. So, maybe it's more about the weight loss and not the rapidness of it. Who knows.
I can't imagine 8 weeks on 600 calories, though I think I could do a few days. I'm pretty good at picking foods that satiate me0 -

The scientists conclude that a reduction of fat around the liver and pancreas reverses type 2 diabetes. They do not claim that sudden starvation-type dieting improved anything, although they used in the study. They probably wanted faster results which makes for a shorter, less expensive study.
It should also be noted that this study has a small sample size, and they excluded anyone with very advanced diabetes or a family history of diabetes.
