Lifeguard Training
I applied to work at Lifetime Fitness as a lifeguard, and on my application I said I was currently certified to be a lifeguard, thinking the lifeguard training class I was taking would finish on April 13th before I was interviewed. However, the class was cancelled and now I'm having to take a new one which doesn't finish until May 7.
My problem: I had my first interview yesterday and figured it wouldn't be a problem to present legal certification by my second interview (April 15) BUT since my new class doesn't finish until May 7 I'm not going to have the right certification to get the job.
What should I do?
Also, she'd like me to start by May 1

In your second interview I think you have to tell them what happened. Otherwise it would probably be putting their insurance in jeopardy to have you working for them without being certified.0

I'm definitely going to tell them..I just don't want it to seem like I lied on my application to get the interview.0 -
I'm with @synchkat ... It's easy enough to let them know your class was cancelled (but you had planned to be certified when you applied) and let them know you're dedicated to getting your certification at the upcoming class. If you're a right fit for the position, they should be happy to know they have a go-getter nearly ready to come on board.

I'm sure if you explain what happened they will be fine. For all intents and purposes you would have been certified had the class not been cancelled. Granted you probably should have listed on your resume or in the cover letter that the certification was pending and would be done on such and such a date. But if they liked you enough to give you a second interview I'd say that they shouldn't be bothered too much. Maybe take e-mails or whatever showing that the class was cancelled and when it is rescheduled for.0

Honesty triumphs. There is no training or degree for integrity. They will hire you. They may have to wait bit if they are a good company they will. Always liked 24 Hour Fitness. Glad to see there are still people out there that wont take the road often travelled. Nice job.0

My girls are both lifeguards, and this is actually pretty typical. Just be honest0
