Sugar cravings out of nowhere... any ideas why please?!?

Evening all

Well I'm 50lb down since last summer and am pretty much at maintenance now, but over the last couple of weeks I have had these crazy strong sugar cravings that seem to come from nowhere!

I follow an essentially paleo diet and didn't find it at all hard to cut out refined sugar .. well, at least, that was absolutely the case until now.

I suppose that only real change of circumstance is that I have heavily upped my exercise schedule (intensity / weight rather than duration) to work at toning up what I can of a 45 year old physique following the weightloss which... well, probably politest to say 'looks better with the wrapper on' lol  (it's ok, I'm not that vain - I accept ageing. I am more genuinely interested in the 'finding out what can be done' journey rather than stressing about what I actually look like)

Anyway - my question to you wise ones out there... please, what is all this about? Any reasons / insights / tips and tricks would be very much appreciated! Frankly, it's all just a bit odd! I have upped my calorie / protein intake to compensate for the exercise - I guess I just don't get it.

Thank you

It explains possible health reasons. Things you should rule out first.
Such as thyroid problem, yeast invasion, peri-menopause... how old are you?

Thank you - that IS interesting. Tbh, peri-menopause is entirely possible as I am 45.

It's funny, I have always firmly believed in listening to what your body is telling you. It has not always been unusual for me to crave sugar (particularly during PMT) but it has stopped pretty much completely for the last 9 months since I started eating very clean. Hence the confusion!

I guess I should continue to try and ignore it - I already eat the nuts, seeds and get the vit B6

Good to know I'm not going completely mad though

Another thing to consider.. I don't know how many carbs you're eating as Paleo is not essentially low carb, just "lower" than standard.. if you are quite low carb it's often recommended to up your intake a bit if you are being more active/working out.. obviously not in the form of sugars lol but maybe the extra carbs in your system may help some.. maybe you're not craving sugar, just needing more energy or (hungrier) Worth a try if you haven't... On the opposite end of the scale is if your carbs are quite high, try lowering them. The lower the carbs, the lower the cravings also tend to be.
