I started at over 300lbs and squeezed myself into yoga pants so it took a loooooong time. Perhaps 80lbs? That's when my clothes got uncomfortable.

I started out at 235 and was a size 16. I've lost 30 lbs so I'm at about 205 and I can fit into size 12 now (some fit well, others do not; depends on the brand). My size 16 stuff isn't so big yet that it falls off of me, I can still wear it if I don't mind pulling up a few times or wearing a belt.

Ironically, I have some size 14 stuff in my closet that to this day still doesn't fit well so I never bothered trying on a size 12 before I hit 30 lbs lost. I bought and wore a size 10 formal dress earlier this month, but I figured it was just due to the cut and material so while excited I didn't think that I could fit into anything else size 10...but one day I went to the mall to try on some other stuff...and surprise size 12!

I'm hoping it doesn't take another 30 lbs to get down to a size 10!

I started at 244 and a size 18 jeans were tight on me. Now at 214 the 16's I purchased are a bit loose! I had to buy a new belt too! It felt so great!

I started at 213. I thought I was a 18. Then at 175 I had to buy new Summer clothes and was shocked to realize that I fit in 14s, but my 18s still fit fine!

Bottom line is that it doesn't mean much. Often clothes stretch out after a while (I had been wearing them for years). I was probably really a 20 or something when I started. The funny thing? The next size I bought (a few months later, in the Fall) was size 8s. They were tight but I fit in them.

I usually buy the same brand (Lee, because it's cheap and they have high waist jeans), so it was easy for me to compare sizes.

This! Was wearing probably a too-small size 16 at 200 lbs. After losing about 10 lbs I went out and bought new clothes...size 18. They are a little lose but definitely wasn't fitting into my 16s at that point.

A lot of it also has to do with where you carry your weight. All mine is in my stomach/torso, and that will probably be the last place I lose from. So I expect to move down slowly in size. My legs are and have always been too small for the pant sizes I need for my waist. My shoulders are always the too-big part of my body for shirts.

Goodness, we sound like twins. If you have a Kohl's near you, you might also like Jennifer Lopez brand jeans. They have higher waists than most jeans these days plus a little bit of stretchiness, which helps keep them a bit more fitted around the hips/butt despite the bigger waistline. I tried them on a whim (thinking "yeah right, JLo jeans are gonna fit me" and was pleasantly surprise.

Those are the jeans I wear too. I have four pairs which will hopefully be too big soon. I like the cut of them, it's flattering, and they are some of the only jeans that are long enough for me.

I believe 20 pounds in pretty average to go down a size. But it all depends on wear you lose weight first.

This is definitely a YMMV situation. I started at 202, but I'm only 5'3" and I'm Apple shaped, so when I started I was wearing an 18-same as the poster above who started 42 pounds heavier. I just finally started losing in my waist, and can wear a Torrid size 1 jean. My Levi's 14w are super saggy in the butt but just starting to get a bit loose in the waist. I haven't bought new tops yet, but I think I'll be able to fit into most regular xl. I started at a 1x.

    I'm down 20 pounds.

I started at 211.6lbs and was a UK size 18/20. I've lost just over 13lbs and now I'm getting closer to a size 16 but my thighs get in the way! I'm hoping my thighs and "apron" will slim down a bit so I can get the jeans over them!
