Cut out the bread, pasta and ice cream. Replace bread/starches on your plate with double veggies. Look for recipes on Cooking Light (one of the few apps I've found that gives you nutritional values) and don't give up! Get a Vivo Fit that connects to this app and keep yourself accountable! I've lost 32 pounds since 11/13/15 and I'm feeling great.

I'm glad that worked for you! I did the complete opposite of you and included all those foods you didn't eat. I am now at maintenance and still including those foods. But yay for you!!18

Why cut anything out? Carbs aren't the enemy! I've lost 52lb so far with plenty of carbs....what matters is the deficit.0
-
Same here- lost 55 pounds eating everything in moderation, although I will admit that I did and still do swap out high calorie high carb foods a lot of times for low calorie, high fiber, filling foods. I just don't want to spend the calories on a donut for example when I can eat an omelet with veggies and cheese or something like that. I still eat pasta but weigh out my portion because that can add up very quickly. And I have found low carb wraps are very good as a replacement for bread when making a sandwich. Congrats on your loss. What you're doing is working and I always say- do what works for you!0

My tip is to eat whatever you want in moderation rather than punishing yourself by unnecessarily restricting food you enjoy. Diet adherence is a lot more likely and easier to achieve when you can eat stuff you really like. My other tip is to stop listening as soon as someone tells you you should avoid certain food. Unless it's for medical reasons, in which case you probably should listen.2

I just started using this app and find it convicting to count my calories and realize how 'alot of the little stuff' I do eat! No wonder I'm outta shape!! Don't criticize someone's recommendations... We all have our faults on what we consume (why are we here?) For some the suggestions work and for others it doesn't. Appreciate the tip and kudos to all of you for finding something that works for you!!!!0

I've witnessed that the low carb diets work. I just can't do them. My sister and brother-in-law have lost some serious weight eating less than 100 carbs a day. Hell they even eat everything else they want and don't count calories. All they do is count carbs. It sounds appealing I just can't do it. I have serious doubts that it would work for everyone anyway. I eat less bread (or rather healthier versions of bread - whole grains), less pasta (unless it's whole grain as well), more vegetables (including potatoes and sweet potatoes), and typically will eat around 200 carbs a day. I have steadily lost weight without a problem doing it this way in a calorie deficit. I eat, on most days, around 150-200 carbs a day and that's watching what I eat. I don't believe carbs are the enemy, but they can throw you under the bus if you eat too many junk carbs and don't keep up your protein and fats. So the OP's tip is valid, but there are many other ways of doing it as well. IMHO0

It's great that it worked for you, but eating like that would have driven me CRAZY. I just cut portion sizes (always ate a good range of foods). More than one way to skin a cat!1

My tip? Don't cut any of that out...
A life without ice cream is a life I don't want to live.10 -

Good job with the weight loss! As a reminder, diets like that work because they tend to reduce calories without having the dieter actually count calories. There is no real benefit to cutting out certain foods if you are otherwise healthy (no allergies or celiacs) and those foods don't tend to trigger a binge.0
-
I did cut out pasta and ice cream. Bread, I've simply reduced. 2 slices a day max. I haven't got enough of a calorie allowance to get away with eating pasta or ice cream no matter how hard I work out! Obviously from the posts though, not everyone has to be as strict.0

If it works for you then I guess that's ok for you. But are you going to be able to cut those things out forever? That's why I refuse to cut anything. This isn't just a diet. It's a lifestyle change. I could never cut those things out forever.2

True story.
I'm glad it worked for you OP, but what works for you may not be the best thing for another.
For me, I included all of those foods and I've lost 79 lbs.0 -
